Tennis Star Barbora Krejcikov Bags First French Open Title

Barbora Krejcikova, the renowned Czech tennis player bags her maiden Grand Slam singles title at the French Open on Saturday.

According to media reports, Barbora has defeated Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in a three-set thriller claiming the dream French Open title.

The former doubles world number one paid tribute to mentor Jana Novotna, who died in 2017, saying she “owed her success to her”.

“She is looking after me from up there,” said Krejcikova.

“I was going through a really hard time when Jana passed away, I was with her most of the time. Her last words were pretty much ‘just enjoy it and try to win a Grand Slam’,” the 25-year-old player said.

Pointing to the sky, she added: “I know from somewhere she is looking after me and all that happened in the last two weeks is pretty much because she is looking after me.”

“It is amazing I had the chance to meet her and she was an inspiration. I hope she is really happy and I am extremely happy,” added Krejcikova.

In an emotional victory speech, she further added: “It’s really hard to put words together right now because I cannot believe what just happened. I cannot believe that I actually won a Grand Slam.

Soon after her victory was announced, the tennis player began receiving congratulatory messages and love from friends and fans.

“India wants to take Jadhav’s case to ICJ again:” FM Qureshi

Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mahmood Qureshi has on Sunday said that Pakistan, under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, would never provide its bases to the US.

While speaking to media officials today, the Foreign Minister said that India wants that Kulbhushan Jadhav should not be given consular access.

He said the government is taking steps to implement decisions of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Jadhav case and the opposition should understand the tactics of India.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said the PML-N government had complicated the Kulbhushan case.

To a question, the Foreign Minister said District Coordination Committees are being constituted in all districts of Punjab on the direction of the Prime Minister.

He said the government believes in across the board fair accountability.

“India wants to take Jadhav’s case to ICJ again. I hope the opposition will understand the Indian attempts in this context,” he maintained.

FM Qureshi further added, the incumbent government wants a transparent accountability system across the country.

The Foreign Minister also advised PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to clarify his position in the graft cases.

Earlier, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had directed the federal government to contact the Indian government through the Foreign Office in the case of detained Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav.

A three-member bench of the IHC headed by Chief Justice Athar Minallah had heard a petition seeking the release of four Indian nationals imprisoned in Pakistan.

Chief Justice Athar Minallah remarked that it seems that the Indian government has a misunderstanding about the proceedings of the court.

The Chief Justice had directed the Government of Pakistan to contact India to clear up their misunderstanding.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Athar Minallah had asked the lawyer of the Indian High Commission whether he had told India in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case.

To which the lawyer of the Indian High Commission had replied that the Indian authorities are of the view that the jurisdiction of the court does not fall in this case.

Chief Justice Athar Minallah had remarked that the life of an Indian citizen is in question.

After Islamabad United’s Hasan Ali left the tournament, Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 franchise Quetta Gladiators also suffer a major blowout after Andre Russell leaves the tournament halfway.

According to sources, Andre Russell has returned to his country after he was hit by a bouncer by Muhammad Musa and was stretchered off to a hospital following the match.

The Emirati cricketer Zahoor Khan, however, will replace Russell to be the part of Gladiators’ squad, sources added.

The Windies batsman couldn’t take part in last night’s match against Peshawar Zalmi, who defeated the Gladiators by 61 runs in the 19th match of PSL 2021.

Also, Zalmi secured the third spot in the points table after beating Quetta Gladiators on Saturday night.

Note that Mohammad Musa churned out a short delivery, catching Russell off-guard as the latter was in no position to negotiate the bouncer. The ball climbed steeply and hit the batter on the grill.

Naseem Shah Joined In As Andre Russell’s Concussion Substitute

After the 34-year-old player was carried off in a stretcher for further treatment of his concussion, right-arm fast bowler Naseem Shah was roped in as a like-for-like substitute for Russell.

United skipper Shadab Khan didn’t seem happy with Shah replacing Russell and could be seen taking to umpire Aleem Dar before the second innings.

Earlier, resuming after a heavy one-year-long ban for violating WADA’s anti-doping whereabouts clause, Russell appeared to take part in the recently concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021. After representing Islamabad United in the first few matches, he was forced to pull out from the tournament due to a hamstring injury.

“I think this one year I lost has made me a different person. I have learned how to be humble. I need to make sure that you stay on top of what you are doing as a professional and yet be humble. I just want to ensure that these things don’t happen again,” said Andre Russell.

“I think I am confident. My confidence level is very high. Once you have confidence in whatever sport you play that’s all you need, that self-belief. But I think, I am in good condition. I wouldn’t say that I am 100% fit. I am happy that I am hitting well and bowling with pace. So I know in a few more games, I will be where I want to be,” concluded the all-rounder.

Ontario Attack: Burial Ceremony held For Muslim Family Draped In Canadian flags

The Pakistani-Origin Muslim family, whose four members were killed after a man rammed a pickup truck in Ontario, have been given farewell with a large number of mourners.

The hour-long ceremony commenced after the four coffins draped in Canadian flags rolled into the compound of the Islamic Centre of Southwest Ontario.

The funeral procession later moved for a private burial which was attended by a large number of mourners.

“And the very fact their coffins are draped in the beautiful Canadian flag is an apt testimony of the fact that the entire Canadian nation stands with them,” Raza Bashir Tarar High Commissioner for Pakistan to Canada told the gathering.

Moreover, the family moved to Canada from Pakistan some 14 years ago.

How The Incident Occurred 

According to police, at 8:40 pm on Sunday night, five members of a family were walking on the sidewalk when they were waiting to cross the intersection when a black truck ran over them.

A family member said the dead included a grandmother, mother, father and a teenage girl.

He said that the family had migrated from Pakistan 14 years ago and were dedicated, polite and generous members of the Muslim mosque in London and used to go for daily walks.

The National Council of Canadian Muslims said in a statement that it was “deeply frightened” and called for justice for the victim’s family.

Police have said the attack was premeditated and allege the family was targeted because of their Islamic faith.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, on the other hand, said he was “horrified” of the attack, saying “To the loved ones of those who were terrorized by yesterday’s act of hatred, we are here for you. We are also here for the child who remains in hospital – our hearts go out to you, and you will be in our thoughts as you recover.”

The Canadian Prime Minister said, “To the Muslim community in London and to Muslims across the country, know that we stand with you. Islamophobia has no place in any of our communities. This hate is insidious and despicable – and it must stop.”

PSL 2021: Hasan Ali Leaving Remaining Tournament due to family concerns

Islamabad United’s fast bowler Hasan Ali has to return to Pakistan following family commitments and will miss the remaining matches of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021.

According to a statement by United’s official Twitter, Hasan will be leaving for Pakistan to join his family and won’t be available for the remaining tournament.

“Unfortunately, I have to pull myself out from PSL 6 due to some personal reasons. Some things are more important than cricket and nothing is more important than family,” Hasan said in a released statement.

“Islamabad United completely support his decision to prioritize his family in these times. We wish him the best of luck,” it added.

Regarding the situation, Hassan Ali said, “I want to say to all Islamabad United fans, unfortunately, due to personal reasons I have to pull out of the remaining PSL matches. Some things are more important than cricket and nothing is more important than family. I am thankful to Islamabad United for their support and understanding. This team truly is a family that stands with you through thick and thin. I wish the team the very best of luck for the remaining PSL matches.”

Moreover, Islamabad United Captain, Shadab Khan, said, “We understand Hassan’s situation right now, family always comes first. We wish Hassan the very best of luck. He will obviously be a huge loss to our team and the tournament, but some things are more important than cricket. Denmark’s all-rounder footballer Christian Eriksen is reportedly stable and awake after he collapsed on the field during his side’s Euro 2020 opening match with Finland, leading to the game being halted for more than 90 minutes.

Christian Eriksen has been stabilized, and the Danish football federation said he was awake, UEFA said.

“Christian Eriksen is awake and is undergoing further examinations at Rigshospitalet,” the Danish federation wrote on Twitter.

Danish football federation director Peter Moeller said Eriksen got a “heart massage” while being treated on the field.

“He fell over and got help and heart massage on the field,” Moeller told. “He was fortunately awake when he left the stadium,” he added.

However, the renowned footballer federal termed Eriksen as the “star of the match”.

On the other hand, UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin said, “Moments like this put everything in life into perspective. I wish Christian a full and speedy recovery and pray his family has strength and faith.”

“At these times, the unity of the football family is so strong and he and his family carry with them the good wishes and prayers of everyone. I heard of fans of both teams chanting his name. Football is beautiful and Christian plays it beautifully,” he added.

After the match was delayed following the medical emergency, the players came back out onto the field to a huge ovation as they started warming up for a second time.

Mathias Jensen replaced Eriksen in the Denmark lineup. Eriksen was given urgent medical attention on the field for about 10 minutes after collapsing near the end of the first half.

He was then carried off on a stretcher. UEFA then announced the game had been suspended “due to a medical emergency.”

Moreover, speaking after the game, Denmark team doctor Morten Boesen, who treated Christian Eriksen, described what happened.

“I want to start by saying that I’ve had a talk with Christian’s family. I’m not going to say anything in detail right now. I want to say what we’ve seen, Boesen said. “We were called on to the pitch when Christian fell down. I didn’t see it myself, but it was pretty clear that he was unconscious. When I got to him, he is on his side. He is breathing and I can feel his pulse, but suddenly that changes. And as everyone saw, we started giving him CPR,” he told.
