Ever Wonder Why You Can Find Grape Ice Pops, But Not Grape Ice cream?

Ever wonder why you can find grape ice pops, but not grape ice cream?

Grape is undoubtedly one of the first fruits that come to mind when you think about familiar fruit flavors. But as common as it is in candy and Popsicles, it’s nowhere to be found in ice cream.

Why is Grape ice cream hard to find?

There are actually a couple of legitimate reasons people rarely sell grape ice cream—none of which has to do with the bizarre rumor that the FDA banned it for making dogs sick. The first has to do with the color of the fruit! According to Jim Mumford, a culinary specialist, cookbook author, and chemical engineer, grapes contain a molecule called anthocyanin, which is the source of the purple hue. “This compound, while a powerful antioxidant, can change how the grape puree freezes. The compound actually breaks down, which affects the color and the flavor to an extent. This is why most grape flavored desserts have food dyes.”

The acidic nature of grapes makes them tough to “ice cream-ify” as well, Mumford adds. “The acid [in grapes], when mixed with dairy, will cause some chemical reactions (aka spoilage),” he says. “So the acid must be processed out of the grape juice before blending, which, while achievable, is another step other flavors don’t have to take.” Don’t miss these 20 other food facts that will change how you eat.

Water content can also doom Grape Ice cream

Grapes have high water content, which is why eating them is an easy way to stay hydrated. However, this implies that if you freeze them to make ice cream, they will become icy chunks. That’s good for an ice pop, but it’s hardly what anyone wants from a scoop of creamy ice cream. The creamy ice cream is difficult to produce in large quantities,” explains Ja-ne de Abreu, author of Sassy Food. “The texture would be off and not so creamy.” Plus, leaving the skins on would ruin the texture, but peeling grapes takes away most of their flavor.

“There are small artisan ice cream shops that make grape ice cream or sorbet,” de Abreu says.“Homemade grape ice cream is also possible.” She cuts up chunks of grapes in her batch of vanilla or lavender ice cream and finds it to be a wonderfully yummy treat. “If I want to blend the grapes in the ice cream, I make the base with more cream than I would with other flavors, and there ya go,” she adds. It’s going large-scale for a mass market that gets tricky.

Are you wondering there’s Cherry ice cream, but no Grape ice cream?

We know what you’re thinking: Cherry Garcia is one of Ben & Jerry’s most popular flavours. Water makes up roughly 81 percent of both grapes and cherries. Aren’t those  ice-cold cherries pose the same problem as grapes?

Yes, to put it succinctly. But the fact that people go crazy for cherry means it’s worth the effort, while grape doesn’t have nearly as strong an association with ice cream.Even if big-name brands made grape ice cream—even if they used grape flavour instead of the fruit itself, as some sherbets do—unlikely it’s they’d sell enough pints to make it worthwhile.

In fact, Ben & Jerry’s attempted to manufacture grape ice cream at one point. However, taste-testing guests at the company’s Flavor Lab gave it mixed reviews, thus the firm never pursued it further.

Two-Headed Sea Turtle Found In South Carolina Beach

Two-headed sea turtle found on South Carolina beach

Park volunteers patrolling a beach in South Carolina stumbled upon an unexpected surprise: A two-headed baby sea turtle.

A group of patrollers and volunteers at Edisto Beach State Park were making a routine inventory to check on sea turtle nests when they stumbled across the special hatchling, South Carolina State Parks said on Facebook.

“Three to five days after a sea turtle nest shows signs of a major emergency, we dig down to determine the success of the nest by counting the hatched eggs, unhatched eggs and on occasions also find live hatchlings.”

The two-headed loggerhead sea turtle was one of three live babies found in a nest.

“While performing an inventory this past Wednesday, patrollers and volunteers found three alive loggerhead sea turtle hatchlings still in the chamber, but one hatchling, in particular, stood out because it had two heads!”

“This two-headed hatchling is the result of a genetic mutation,” South Carolina State Parks said. “Other two-headed hatchlings have been found in South Carolina in past years, but this is a first for the patrol team at Edisto Beach State Park.”

Once the group snapped some photos, all three turtles were released into the ocean.

Most sea turtles hatch in the summer, though they can hatch throughout the year, according to Sea World.

Yellowstone Tourist Charged After Getting Too Close To A Bear

Yellowstone tourist charged after getting too close to a bear

A woman had a close encounter with a bear while shooting photos at a tourist attraction.

The woman, from Illinois, US, was with a small group of tourists who spotted a female grizzly bear and her two cubs in Yellowstone National Park.

The moment the bear bluff attacks the snappy tourist, who reportedly ignored instructions to get in her car, is seen on camera by a witness.

She continues to take photos, trying to get a better shot of a massive grizzly and her cubs, as onlookers gasp in horror, saying “oh my god”.

The bear then turns away, and the woman escapes unharmed

“It was terrifying,” Addington told USA Today of the incident.

Commenters were furious at the close encounter, with one saying: “Then the bear pays the consequences of a human’s stupid and thoughtless decision.”

Another wrote: “I am so glad you are finally pressing charges. I see this too often and people simply do not understand the consequences of their actions. An Instagram photo is simply not worth it.”

A third wrote: “And of course if she would have been hurt or killed it would have been the bear’s fault and they would put the beardown!!! Stupid stupid people!!!! All for a picture, if you want an up-close picture buy a camera that has a lens that gets you up close and personal!”

It was a tip-off in response to the post that ultimately led to investigators charging Samantha Dehring.

The Illinois woman is facing charges of feeding, touching, teasing, frightening or intentionally disturbing wildlife and violating closures and use limits

There is an average of one bear attack at Yellowstone each year, and in 2011 and 2015 three people were killed by bears in separate incidents, leading the park to introduce distancing rules for visitor safety.

Saudi Arabia To Reopen Travelling For Vaccinated Tourists From 1st August 2021

Saudi Arabia is opening its borders for international travellers after 17 months since the Covid-19 pandemic began.

The Saudi Arabia government has announced to lift the travel restrictions for fully vaccinated travellers coming from foreign countries from August 1, 2021. The government on Friday made a huge announcement. Apparently, the nation is opening its borders for travellers after 17 months since the pandemic started.

According to Saudi news, the Ministry of Tourism of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) will allow fully vaccinated tourists in the nation. The announcement by the government was made on Friday. Apparently, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) is opening its borders for travellers after 17 months since the Covid-19 pandemic began.

Minister of Tourism, Ahmed Al-Khateeb said, “We welcome tourists again, and we are very happy to receive the Kingdom’s guests again after a pause due to the repercussions of the Coronavirus pandemic.” He further added that they are focused on ensuring the safety of visitors to the Kingdom so that tourists can enjoy exploring the country’s treasures, crucial destinations and other landmarks.

It said travellers, fully vaccinated with Saudi-approved jabs — Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson — will be able to enter the kingdom “without the need for an institutional quarantine period”, provided they also have proof of a negative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) Covid-19 test taken within the last 72 hours and register their details with health authorities

It must be noted that the Hajj and Umrah pilgrims are still not being accepted by the KSA from outside the country and the only pilgrims who performed Hajj and Umrah recently were the kingdom’s own citizens.

Earlier in February, Saudi Arabia had suspended entry to the kingdom from 20 countries, with the exception of diplomats, Saudi citizens, medical practitioners and their families, to help curb the spread of the coronavirus, the state news agency reported.

So far, 26 million jobs have been administered to the population of 35 million, and the kingdom has said that from August 1, vaccinations will be mandatory to enter government and private establishments, including educational institutions and entertainment venues, as well as to use public transport.

Saudi Arabia has registered more than 523,000 coronavirus cases, with 8,213 deaths so far.

UK Lawmakers Say Conditions For Channel Migrants ‘Shocking’

UK lawmakers say conditions for Channel migrants ‘shocking

A man and a child thought to be migrants are disembarked from a British border force vessel in dover.

British lawmakers say they found “shocking conditions” at a facility for people arriving in England on small boats, with babies and small children among dozens packed into a small room in the port town of Dover.

Parliament’s Home Affairs Committee said in a letter released Friday that its members found 56 people crammed into a waiting room at the Kent Intake Unit when they visited this week.

Chairwoman Yvette Cooper, an opposition Labour Party lawmaker, said the crowded conditions created a “clear risk” of a COVID-19 outbreak.

“The space is clearly unfit for holding this many people,” Cooper said in a letter to Home Secretary Priti Patel, Britain’s immigration minister. “Most people were sitting or lying on a thin mattress and those covered almost the entirety of the floor including the aisles between seats.

“Sharing these cramped conditions were many women with babies and very young children, alongside significant numbers of teenage and young adult men.

Despite a statute stating that they should not be held in the room for more than a day, Cooper said some people were being kept in the room for up to 48 hours before being relocated to lodging. Others were staying in “basically an office area” for up to ten days while awaiting further transit.

The Home Office said, “unacceptable numbers of people are making life-threatening journeys crossing the Channel at the hands of criminal trafficking gangs.”

People seeking to reach England from northern France by stowing away in trucks, ferries, or small boats arranged by people smugglers have been attempting to reach England for years, with little success.

Almost 8,500 people have arrived in Britain by crossing the Channel in small boats so far this year, about the same as the total for all of 2020. Several people have died trying to make the journey.

The journeys have been seized on by anti-immigration commentators such as former Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage, who has criticized Britain’s sea-rescue service, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, for picking up migrants from boats in the Channel and bringing them ashore.

The RNLI, a charity, defended its humanitarian work and said donations rose from a daily average of 7,000 pounds ($9,800) to 200,000 pounds ($280,000) in one day after the criticism.

Kriti Sanon Delivers Her Career-Best Performance In Mimi

Kriti Sanon Delivers Her Career-Best Performance In Mimi

Fans have been eagerly waiting for Kriti Sanon’s Mimi to release on Netflix on July 30. However, after the film was leaked online, the makers as well as the streaming platform decide to release it before its scheduled date.

The film follows the story of Mimi as she chooses to become a surrogate for a couple who cannot have a child on their own. But things take a turn leaving Mimi with more than she expected.

Mimi starring Kriti Sanon and Pankaj Tripathi in lead roles is directed by Laxman Utekar of ‘Luka Chuppi’ fame.

The film revolves around Sanon’s Mimi who decides to become a surrogate mother and bear the child of an American couple after being convinced by Tripathi’s Bhanu. She needed the money to fund her Bollywood aspiration and it looked like the perfect coup. And it was until the foreigners changed their minds and returned. It is then when Mimi is faced with questions of morality. It is also then when the film rises above mediocre humor to become something more. When it packs drama by highlighting the ills of growing surrogacy practices in India. While it doesn’t get into the gritty details of the same, the Laxman Utekar directorial fares well thanks to the engaging narrative. That and the solid performances by the ever-dependable Tripathi, Sanon who has arguably delivered the best performance of her career so far, and the entire cast including Sai Tamhankar, Manoj Pahwa, and Supriya Pathak. While one necessarily doesn’t subscribe to the worldview of the characters, it was easy to believe and be happy for them. But is it worth the watch?

They induce entertaining moments while taking you through an emotional journey. In fact, in the first half, the makers create a mirage by weaving in emotional scenes with sporadic lighter moments; leading one to misjudge that this must be the treatment throughout the script’s flow. However, in the second half the director uses a sleight of hand and catches the audience off-guard with tighter control on the flow without being overdramatic.

As soon as Mimi was released, netizens jumped on social media, despite it being a Monday, and binged the film. It has since been receiving rave reviews on Twitter with many even claiming it to be Kriti’s career-best performance

The script and dialogue are rooted in the values of Indian culture. There are moments in the film where Laxman has preferred the supporting cast to change the gravity of the scene. For instance, when Supriya Pathak questions her daughter that you are both Yashodha and Devaki of this child, then how can the American be the mother? It depicts the root of the dilemma.

Overall, Mimi is one of those mid-budget films that rides high on content and performance to build relationships with the audience.
