ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between Iran and the United States and pave the way for a lasting ceasefire are continuing. As part of these efforts, Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir has arrived in Iran along with Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
During the visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir met Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni. According to Iranian media, the two officials discussed matters of mutual interest.
Asim Munir is also expected to hold talks with senior Iranian officials during the visit. Iran’s Foreign Ministry previously said the trip would focus on strengthening cooperation between Iran and Pakistan while continuing Pakistan’s efforts to support regional peace and security.
The visit comes at a time of heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington. Pakistan has been pursuing diplomatic efforts aimed at easing the conflict and encouraging a peaceful and lasting resolution.
Gen. Asim Munir has previously visited Iran twice during the ongoing conflict, making this visit another step in Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement with Tehran. Pakistan’s military media wing, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), said Asim Munir’s visit is part of the country’s efforts to promote regional peace and stability.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei announced on Sunday that Asim Munir’s trip would focus on improving cooperation between Pakistan and Iran.
Baghaei said the visit is part of Pakistan’s continuing efforts to support peace and security in the region. He added that Munir is expected to discuss issues of mutual interest and ways to further strengthen bilateral relations during his meetings in Tehran.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran remains under what he described as a state of war, facing serious economic, military and security challenges.
Speaking at a ceremony, Pezeshkian said Iran had remained firm despite tough U.S. sanctions and was working to deal with what he called an unequal war.
The Iranian president also accused the United States of trying to turn Iran into another Venezuela but said the effort had failed. Pezeshkian said Iran’s enemies wanted to destroy the country, but he insisted that Iran had remained standing despite the pressure.
He further said Iran had developed into a strong country capable of surprising the world because of its unity. The president expressed hope that the difficulties facing the Iranian people would be overcome soon.
