ISLAMBAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has raised concerns over the gradual intensification of weather conditions in Pakistan and the broader South Asian region. According to NDMA spokesperson Dr Tayyab Shah, last year witnessed extreme heat, and similar patterns are continuing this year. He emphasized that the severity of weather across South Asia, including Pakistan, is steadily increasing a trend that calls for urgent climate resilience measures and public awareness to mitigate risks. Dr Tayyab Shah further explained that Pakistan's climate is experiencing remarkable temperature fluctuations ranging from conditions as cold as Alaska to as hot as the Sahara desert. He stressed that when such wide temperature variations occur extreme weather events necessarilly become a common occurrence. The NDMA prepares for these anticipated events when heatwaves or floods are predicted detailed guidelines are formulated based on the expected severity. This vital information is then promptly communicated to Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) and local district administrations for preparedness and response.
