The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved a tariff adjustment of Rs 1.96 per unit for the first quarter of FY 2024-25.
This adjustment, which affects Distribution Companies (Discos) and K-Electric, aims to recover an additional Rs 1.187 billion and will be billed to consumers in December 2024.
A hearing on November 20, 2024, included representatives from the Ministry of Energy, Discos, CPPA-G, K-Electric, and the public. During the session, it was clarified that the current fourth-quarter adjustment of Rs 1.74 per unit for FY 2024-25 will end in November, with a net increase of around 22 paisa per unit.
Some participants expressed concerns about the timing of the adjustment. Aamir Sheikh suggested delaying the charges until January 2025 to reduce the financial burden on consumers. Arif Bilwani also called for an investigation into the drop in demand across Discos and urged Nepra to review load-shedding practices.
Additionally, CPPA-G requested Rs 1.007 billion for legal fees related to a debit note issued to Discos. Historically, Nepra has excluded such legal fee adjustments from quarterly tariff calculations.
