Karachi: At a time when poor patients visiting government-run hospitals are being forced to buy medicines from the market and get their medical tests done from the private laboratories, Al-Khidmat pharmacies have started providing quality medicines on highly subsidized rates to people, leading physicians and pharmacists associated with the welfare organization said on Sunday.
Similarly, high quality diagnostic services including radiological services are now available at the Al-Khidmat diagnostic facilities across the city on highly subsidized rates, they said while speaking at the inauguration of Al-Khidmat Pharmacy and Diagnostic Center at NIPA, Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
Former chairman of Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PPMA) Zahid Saeed, leading healthcare professionals were also present at the inaugural ceremony.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, former PPMA Chairman Zahid Saeed said provision of health facilities including quality medicines and diagnostic facilities is the responsibility of the state but due to its failure, people are being compelled to buy medicines from the market while they are also forced to get their diagnostic tests done from the private laboratories.
“In these circumstances, Al-Khidmat is offering quality medicines on subsidized rates while diagnostic services are being offered on 50 to 70 percent less than the market rates, which is commendable and being appreciated by the national and international healthcare organizations”, Zahid Saeed said.
He maintained that unlike other NGOs, Al-Khidmat never compromises on quality of services offered at its facilities as its healthcare operations are supervised and monitored by top-of-the-line healthcare specialists.
Incharge of the Al-Khidmat Pharmacy Services Syed Jamshed Ahmed said medicine is the most important part of a healthcare intervention and if a person does not get the effective medicine in the end, he or she cannot get rid of their disease.
CEO of Al-Khidmat Karachi Naveed Ali Baig said on one hand, they were working on the prevention of disease by providing clean drinking water to people and on the other, they were trying to provide best quality healthcare to people.
