Karan Johar says he thought ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ would flop

Karan Johar, one of the acclaimed filmmakers just marked 25 years in the industry. During the interview, KJo confessed honestly that he felt his 2001 film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham would be a flop because it had “really bad reviews” at the time.

During the interview, Karan Johar said that he expected Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham to be a flop. The filmmaker revealed how the picture had a lot of negative feedback, saying, “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham released and I thought it would flop, we had really bad reviews like everyone was like ‘old wine, new bottle same thing, turned over’ and I was actually really depressed when it released.” I remember a trade reviewer giving the picture a pretty horrible review and writing at the conclusion, ‘Overall the film will disappoint all concerned,’ and I was like, I remember reading and thinking, my film’s going to flop.”

He went on to add, “I called Anil Thadani who was a massive distributor producer, and exhibitor and I called him and he was like ‘Karan are you going crazy? This is pre-Eid, just wait for Monday.’ He said Monday if your advance is good for the second week that means you are home.

He further added, “I was like if the film flops what am I gonna do because my dad (Yash Johar) told me if this film flops, we will have to go back to our old house because we put all our money into this film whatever we made on Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.”

Karan stated that when he arrived to Liberty, where the film was screening, he saw heavy traffic. When he queried why there was so much traffic, he was told, “Arey advance booking ka line hai (this is for advance booking of a film).” The filmmaker inquired as to which picture the queue was for and was informed that it was for his film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, which was houseful for week two.

Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Hrithik Roshan featured in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

He shared a few pictures, some from her new cake-slicing function to his life as a youngster pictures with her and late movie producer father Yash Johar.

Sharing the photos, Karan expressed, “My daring and strong mother turns 80 today… She showed me how to adore … how to represent what I have confidence in … never apologize or legitimize myself assuming that I was justified… never profess to be anybody I wasn’t … . She is as much my inner voice as she is my style police … . Likewise the main individual who I’m actually frightened of… I love you mother to the planets and back … . I couldn’t have ever had the option to raise Roohi and Yash without you… ”

The late Yash Johar and Hiroo Johar had only one son, Karan. In 2017, the filmmaker had twins through surrogacy, and ever since then, he and his mother have co-parented them. After rearranging his mother’s name, he also gave his daughter the name Roohi. Yash Johar, his late father, is the name his son is given.

Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani is Karan’s current project. In Kashmir, he was filming the final segment of the movie. It will open in theaters on July 28 and stars Dharmendra, Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi.

Recently, actor and filmmaker Karan Johar disclosed that his late father, Yash Johar, had written him a letter with advice on “those he should trust and those he shouldn’t.”

In an interview, Karan revealed that he discovered a letter containing some crucial advice for him days after his father’s passing.

He quoted: “It was a business letter, it wasn’t an emotional letter. That letter actually said where the funds were in terms of your mutual funds, your investments. He even said these are people you trust these are people you don’t trust. This is how you should take the business forward. It became kind of my Bible. So I took that Bible like five to six pages of detailed things about bank accounts and bank where money is, where property investments are.”

All the Bollywood industry celebrities adore Johar, a well-known filmmaker. He tells stories with incredible skill. In addition to this, he has a clever personality.
