South Indian actor Mohan Babu issued a formal apology on Friday after allegedly assaulting a video journalist during a physical altercation outside his home earlier this week. The incident, which began as a family dispute, escalated into a larger controversy involving media personnel.

Taking to his X account, Mohan Babu expressed “deep regret” and described the incident as “unfortunate.” In his statement, he explained, “It pains me deeply that what started as a personal family dispute spiraled into a larger situation. The media became inadvertently intertwined, leading to a deeply regrettable outcome.”

The actor claimed his actions were a response to 30-50 people, including “anti-social elements,” barging into his home. “In the heat of the moment, I lost my composure and caused an injury to the journalist,” he admitted, while apologizing to the journalist, his family, and their media organization. He also wished the journalist a speedy recovery.

The police, however, intensified their investigation. Initially booked under Section 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons or substances) of the BNS, the charges were later amended to Section 109 (attempted murder) based on the journalist’s detailed statement.

A senior police official confirmed, “The section has been altered to Section 109 following further examination of the journalist’s complaint.”

Mohan Babu clarified he was hospitalized for health reasons over the past two days, delaying his apology. The case continues to draw attention as legal proceedings move forward.
