The Pakistani drama industry and its devoted audience deserve a change because it is plagued by overused tropes, formulaic storylines, unnecessarily long episodes, numerous misogynistic protagonists, and stereotypical gender roles representation on television. Drama ‘Hum Dono’ featuring Ahsan Khan and Hira Mani is  fortunately here to save the day!

The upcoming drama Hum Dono by Ahsan Khan and Hira Mani is expected to alter how men are portrayed on screen.

Khan and Mani appear to be surviving all storms in their happy family in the miniseries’ first two teasers, which have already been made public. The third trailer, though, is the real deal for anyone seeking the industry’s much-needed fresh start. The storyline in Hum Dono is original and balanced in many ways.

The actor from Dil Mera Dhadkan Teri made sure that his character was on the opposite end of the gender spectrum. Khan writes about a sensitive, emotional man who treats his relationship issues with love, care, and consideration. The Udaari actor muses on how pervasive misogyny is a problem for everyone, whether it be in real life or on screen: “How do men behave? What type of relationship is it when males try their hardest to dominate women, verbally attack them, and become enraged at them?”

The subsequent teaser depicts a man crying while being consoled by his partner, openly expressing his emotions, and finding joy in cooking dinner. Despite being admired by his family, the character is despised by society. Umar, who is portrayed by Khan and Mani, asks his wife Mahi, “Why should I act like a typical man when I don’t even think like one?”

The trailer finishes with the query, “Would society be ready to embrace this man after he defied all stereotypes?”

Although Hum Dono might seem like a big, intimidating project, the Rehbra actor suggested otherwise. The 41-year-old actor revealed that the miniseries is a humorous comedy during a BTS interview.

In regards to his portrayal of Umar, the Meray Humnasheen actor said: “My protagonist is a kind and intelligent man, but his situation is not like that of the average person. He has a special bond with his wife and kids. The show is, in my opinion, a romantic comedy with elements of satire. It’s a really intriguing package all around.”

However, Hira also talked about her role, stating, “Mahi, the character I play, is constantly terrified but never expresses this to anyone. She pretends before the world while hiding all of her anxieties and issues inside her heart. She is, in a way, a realistic character that anyone can identify with because she is just a girl trying to improve her life. But there’s a twist—at the conclusion of the day, she tells everyone a secret that alters everything.”

This year will see the release of Hum Dono. Hira, Ahsan, Azra Mansoor, Bismah Babar, Faizan Chawla, Taqi Ahmed, Asfar Khan, and Feroza Muhammad are all featured in the project.
