PM Imran, Angela Merkel discuss prevailing chaotic situation in Afghanistan

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has on Wednesday held a telephonic conversation with German Chancellor Ms Angela Merkel and discussed the prevailing chaotic situation in Afghanistan.

Bilaterally, PM Imran expressed satisfaction at regular high-level exchanges between Pakistan and Germany. He added that Pakistan looked forward to enhance collaboration with Germany in all areas of mutual interest. Both, Angela Merkel and the premier agreed to remain in close contact.

The Prime Minister added that Pakistan was facilitating the evacuation of diplomatic personnel and staff of international organizations from Afghanistan.

Whereas on Tuesday, Prime Minister Imran Khan received a telephone call from British counterpart Boris Johnson and exchanged views on the latest situation in Afghanistan.

Prime Minister Imran Khan underscored the paramount importance of a peaceful and stable Afghanistan for Pakistan.

The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of an inclusive political settlement in Afghanistan.

The two Prime Ministers agreed to remain in contact with respect to the evolving situation in Afghanistan.

Also, the Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and the Pakistani premier exchanged views on the evolving situation in Afghanistan.

Imran Khan shared Pakistan’s perspective, emphasizing the importance of ensuring safety and security as well as the protection of rights of all Afghans. He also underscored the importance of working out an inclusive political settlement.

The Pakistani Prime Minister highlighted Islamabad’s facilitating role in the evacuation of diplomatic personnel and staff of international organizations and others from Afghanistan, as requested.

The Prime Minister of Denmark thanked Prime Minister Imran Khan for Pakistan’s support and assistance in their evacuation endeavours.

Moreover, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that as Pakistan is reaching out to all Afghan leaders, the international community must also stay engaged, particularly to support the people of Afghanistan economically.

“The inclusive political settlement of the Afghan issue is the best way forward,” he said.
