Twitter’s ‘evil eyes off Shehnaaz’ trended following Sona Mohapatra’s criticism on her

Shehnaaz
  • Shehnaaz Gill fans started a campaign against Sona Mohapatra .
  • For allegedly questioning her talent, leading to a ‘evil eyes off Shehnaaz’ trend on Twitter.
  • Slammed Sona for attacking Shehnaaz for no reason.

Fans of Shehnaaz Gill flooded Twitter and appeared to launch a campaign against Sona Mohapatra for allegedly making fun of the actor-singer in a recent tweet by posing the question, “What’s her talent”? On Wednesday, followers of Sona were urged to unfollow her by sharing screenshots of her latest tweets and making the phrase “evil eyes off Shehnaaz Gill” trend on Twitter. While others defended Shehnaaz, proclaiming that she was “stronger than you believe” and desiring to shield her “from bad eyes,” others criticized Sona for attacking Shehnaaz without cause.

Upon posting pictures of Shehnaaz, a fan tweeted, “God bless you… you are stronger than you believe,” along with the hashtag “evil eyes off Shehnaaz Gill.” Another supporter who appeared to criticize Sona wrote, “Jalne walo (those who are jealous of Shehnaaz) you can’t stop her… fly high my queen,” in reference to Sona. “Always stay blessed Shehnaaz Gill, you are a fighter, keep fighting sweetie,” read another tweet from a supporter. One fan tweeted about Sona: “You focus on your work.” One additional supporter posted a screenshot of Sona’s Twitter page and said, “Useful is the block button. Please utilize it.”

Sona Mohapatra criticized Shehnaaz Gill in a series of tweets last week, raising concerns about her abilities and the reasons behind the attention she receives on social media. Sona’s tweets were in response to a video of Shehnaaz that had been widely shared on social media, in which she was seen stopping mid-song as the azaan (the Muslim call to prayer) began playing in the background.

Sona remarked that it made her think of the moment Shehnaaz supported Sajid Khan after he entered Bigg Boss 16 and was accused during the Me Too campaign. “All the praise Shehnaaz GiII received on Twitter for her gesture of “respect” today made me think of how she supported, revered, and praised the multiple-acquitted pervert and sex criminal Sajid Khan when he appeared on national television. She ought to show some consideration for her sisterhood. Me Too,” tweeted Sona.

When some Twitter users questioned why Sona was specifically targeting Shehnaaz because she had defended Sajid, Sona responded, “Dear trolls trying to stand up for yet another starlet like Jacqueline (Fernandez), I don’t know what Shehnaz’s particular talent is as of now, aside from lowbrow reality tv fame. Yet, I am aware of the tactics used by women of convenience, who take the easy way out in exchange for a job or money.

After criticizing Shehnaaz Gill, Sona tweeted about “success” a few days later. She recently posted a tweet about “buying PR,” but she avoided naming any specific individuals in it. She said, “Spend some money, time, and effort on getting an education; music teacher, acting coach, voice-dialogue intonation coach, and practice whatever other craft, you want to project as your talent, profession. Success is not defined by “cute, glib rhetoric, sucking up to powerful men, buying PR (public relations), and SM (social media).”

Sona Mohapatra responded to an individual on social media who had criticized her performance of the well-known Punjabi song Pasoori. The singer answered that the user was “not qualified to grasp” that it was more about the nature of the track than the voice after the user had tweeted that Sona’s voice wasn’t “up to the mark” in response to a video she had released.

Recently, Sona gave a live acoustic rendition of Pasoori. The song has achieved enormous global acclaim since it was first performed by Pakistani singer-songwriter Ali Sethi. On Monday, Sona shared a video showing how much her followers like the song. One social media user said, “Sorry to say, but your voice was not up to mark for this song. So, please don’t try again such type of songs, where your voice can’t fit.”

Sona tweeted back, “Sorry to say but your not qualified to understand that it’s more to do with a composition that can only sound good with a track & heavy music production, does not hold when sung bare and with three instruments. Many classic great songs do, not Pasoori. Your domain, not.”

For a recent endeavor, Sona Mohapatra assembles an all-female music group

Sona

Sona Mohapatra is an Indian singer. She was born on 17 June 1976 in Odisha. She has been in albums, concert Bollywood films, and advertising and has performed in concerts all over the world.

The singer believes that women’s careers in music have a bright future since the next generation of musicians is more equitable and supportive of the creative process.

She says, “Girls aren’t traditionally encouraged to play instruments from a young age. The few female bands that do get formed don’t get enough opportunities, and so, have a tough time surviving. I wish festival organizers and brands create more platforms for female bands to perform for larger audiences.”

“I hire musicians on the basis of their abilities and not their gender. So, it’s always about merit, talent, and commitment first. But I’ve had wonderful musicians like percussionist Swarupa Ananth and bassist Pooja Mazoomdar in my band over the years.”
