“I wasn’t aware of what Raj Kundra was up to”, says Shilpa Shetty

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty has said in her statement to the Mumbai Police that she wasn’t aware of what her husband, Raj Kundra, was up to.

Shilpa also said that she was too busy with her ‘own work’. She is listed as one of the 43 witnesses in the 1500-page supplementary charge sheet filed by Mumbai Police in the porn racket case.

“Raj Kundra started Viaan Industries Limited in 2015 and I was one of the directors till 2020 when I resigned due to personal reasons. I am not aware of the Hotshots or Bollyfame apps. I was too busy with my own work and hence, not aware about what Raj Kundra was up to,” Shilpa’s statement read.

It should be noted that earlier Raj Kundra was arrested by Mumbai Police in a pornography case.

A friend of the actress says “Raj Kundra’s troubles aren’t going away in a hurry. On the contrary, they seem to be multiplying every week. The disclosure of Raj Kundra’s alleged link with adult content came as much a shock to Shilpa as to the rest of us. She had no clue that the diamonds and duplex were coming from nefarious resources.”

“She won’t be touching a penny of Kundra’s assets, from what we know,” according to the friend. “She earns a substantial amount of money from judging reality shows. She has let it be known in the film industry that she is looking at more film roles after Hungama 2 and the unreleased Nikamma,” says the source.

Hansal Mehta opens up in support of Shilpa Shetty

Bollywood filmmaker Hansal Mehta is one of the few Bollywood celebrities to speak in support of actor Shilpa Shetty. He took to Twitter, asking everyone to leave her alone.

Actress Shilpa’s husband Raj Kundra was arrested on July 19 by the Mumbai Police for his alleged connection to a pornography racket. Shilpa has been trolled online since and has even filed a lawsuit against multiple publications and social media platforms for publishing defamatory content against her.

In his tweet, Hansal said that Shilpa should be allowed her dignity and privacy. “If you cannot stand up for her at least leave Shilpa Shetty alone and let the law decide? Allow her some dignity and privacy. It is unfortunate that people in public life ultimately are left to fend for themselves and are proclaimed guilty even before justice is meted out,” he wrote.

This vilification is a pattern. If the allegations are against a film person there is a rush to invade privacy, to pass sweeping judgement, to character-assassinate, to fill ‘news’ with trashy gossip – all at the cost of individuals and their dignity. This is the cost of silence.

“This silence is a pattern. In good times everybody parties together. In bad times there is deafening silence. There is isolation. No matter what the ultimate truth the damage is already done,” he added
