Salim Khan Shares Asking Children To Respect Helen Like Salma Khan

Salim Khan

During an interview with his son Arbaaz Khan, Salim Khan reflected on a time when he encouraged his children to give equal respect to his second wife, Helen, as they did to their mother, Salma Khan.

In an episode of Arbaaz’s chat show, The Invincibles, he asked his father if he believed his children played a role in maintaining his relationship with Helen.

Arbaaz questioned, “There have been instances where children revolt over how they treat my mother; even Salman was independent at that stage.”

Salim responded by sharing, “During a time when my children didn’t fully understand the complexities of the relationship, I made them sit down and realize the challenges. But I want to emphasize one thing, I know you can’t love Helen Aunty as much as you love your mother, but I expect the same level of respect.”

The actor, known for his role in Shootout At Lokhandwala, also acknowledged, “At that time, we may have had complaints and problems regarding how our family was affected, but as we grew older, we also encountered similar situations where we could have reacted the same way.”

According to reports, the Khan family now shares a great relationship with Helen. Salim Khan’s children, Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan, and Sohail Khan, respectfully refer to Helen as ‘Aunty’ now.

Helen claims that out of respect for Salma Khan, she would conceal herself in a car

Helen
  • Helen discussed her life journey, career, and relationship with Arbaaz Khan’s father.
  • Salim Khan, and her respect for Salma Khan.
  • She did her best to keep a distance from her during the initial days of their relationship.

Since Helen last appeared in a major motion picture, it has been more than ten years. She played a senior performer in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine (2012), which was her last significant acting role. She spoke with actor Arbaaz Khan about her life’s path and how dancing in movies gave her her big break. She also opened out about her personal relationship with Salim Khan, the 1970s screenwriter who was the father of Arbaaz. Helen said that because Salim’s first wife, Salma Khan, was someone she respected, she tried her best to keep a distance from her in the beginning of their relationship.

The seasoned actor-dancer, who has appeared in over a thousand movies, fled Burma with her family and came in India from Myanmar, then Burma, in 1943. When she was just out of her teens and started working in the film industry, she finally met Salim Khan on a number of the movies they were involved in together. When Helen was going through a difficult time in her life, he supported her financially and professionally. He also assisted her with a few acting possibilities. Eventually, in the 1970s, they became close. Salim, though, was already married and had four kids.

Helen said in an interview with Arbaaz on his program The Invincibles that she never wanted Salim to leave his family. She also mentioned how much respect she had for Salma. The performer remarked, “In the beginning, I would duck down so that Mummy [Salma] would not see me and believe that the automobile was empty near your house when I would pass Bandstand and I would know that she occasionally stands in the balcony. I used to treat her with such reverence.”

Later, Arbaaz claimed that their relationships are so strong that Salma calls Helen to find out when she will be arriving when she doesn’t show up for family gatherings or meals. Salma was given a lot of credit by Helen, who noted that Salma had to have experienced a lot in the 1970s. She continued by saying that she firmly believes in fate and that “jo hone hai wohi hota hai” (whatever happens will happen).

Helen recounts the beginning of her romance with Salim Khan

Helen
  • Helen Khan opened up about her marriage to Salim Khan, which was difficult for her first wife Salma Khan.
  • Helen fell in love with screenwriter Salim Khan.
  • Salim was also a married man with children, when he decided to marry Helen.

In the 1950s and 1960s, Helen was regarded as the dancing diva of the Hindi cinema business. Salim Khan, a scriptwriter, and Helen fell in love and was married in 1980. She was 42 at the time, and he was 45. When Salim made the decision to wed Helen, he was already married and had kids. Now, Helen, who enjoys a cordial relationship with Salim and his family, revealed up about her marriage and claimed that first wife Salma Khan found it “difficult” in a recent interview with Salim’s son, actor Arbaaz Khan.

Helen continued by saying Salma had to “go through a lot” before she and Salim started dating. After courting for a few years, Salim Khan and Sushila Charak, afterwards known as Salma Khan, got hitched in 1954. Actor Salman Khan, actor-producer Arbaaz Khan, and actor-director Sohail Khan are their three sons collectively. Salim and Salma also have two daughters, Alvira and Arpita Khan.

On Thursday, the preview for the upcoming The Invincibles episode was made public. When Arbaaz Khan questioned Helen in the video about her well-known dance performances in movies and how she ended her career, Helen responded, “I was extremely fortunate to be able to dance (in films) till I was 42 years old. Working in the film industry was not regarded favorably at the time, according to the old adage, “film industry main kaam nahi karna chahiye, yeh achi baat nahi hai.” The heroines essentially took over and began dressing in ways that no heroine would have back then. This much Helen was my fate; nothing more.”

Helen was then asked by Arbaaz if she had met Salim Khan, his father, at about the same time. Helen answered, “He (Salim) assigned me a part (in a film). We grew close, and your mother was lovely. It must have been difficult for her at the time; she must have experienced a lot. I believe that all of you are connected to me by fate, and I want to thank you all. I’ve never wanted Salim to be apart from his family.”

Salim assisted Helen in landing a number of Bollywood films in the 1950s and 1960s, which paved the way for the two of them to have a fruitful professional relationship. Salman discussed how his mother Salma had been wounded by his father Salim’s second marriage to Helen in a throwback interview with Filmfare in 1990. In addition, he had stated that despite their relationship’s numerous ups and downs, “Helen aunty” had grown to be a part of their family over time.

Salim Khan’s Hindu father-in-law had issues with his religion

Salim Khan
  • Salim Khan recalls his courtship with first wife Salma Khan on his son Arbaaz Khan’s new talk show.
  • The veteran screenwriter spoke about how he faced opposition from his wife’s Hindu family at first.
  • They would go on to have four children – two sons and two daughters.

On his son Arbaaz Khan’s brand-new talk program, Salim Khan reflected on his challenging courtship with his first wife Salma Khan. The seasoned screenwriter discussed how his wife’s Hindu family first opposed him. In 1964, his wife also changed her name from Sushila to Salma after they got married. Salman, Arbaaz, and Sohail, three sons, and Alvira, a daughter, would be their other children. Later, they also adopted Arpita as a daughter.

The seasoned screenwriter disclosed that their relationship initially started off in secrecy. I would like to meet your folks, he insisted later. He didn’t feel comfortable meeting in secret and telling her family a lie.

In an interview with Arbaaz Khan for his program The Invincibles, he said, “When I went to meet them, I thought all the Maharashtrians in the country had gathered in one location. People were everywhere. I’ve never felt more anxious than I did at that time. As though I were a brand-new animal in the zoo, everyone had come to see me. Many people also had my back.

We have inquired about you, my father-in-law stated. You have a decent family and education. Good boys are hard to find these days. The religion is not acceptable, according to the Magar culture.

There may be thousands of issues between him and Salma, but religion would never be one of them, Salim had responded. In addition, Arbaaz said that his mother’s previous name was Sushila until she changed it after being married to Salim. Additionally, he questioned his father about how the family changed his name from Salim to Shankar. “The only member of the family that supported me was her grandmother, Ajji, who went by the name. When will my Shankar come? she used to ask while she waited.” said Salim.

Salim’s second marriage began in 1981 when he wed the actor-dancer Helen. Although it was challenging at first, the family has become used to her and the kids now refer to her as Helen Aunty. Other well-known actors from the heyday of Hindi film, such as Helen, Javed Akhtar, Mahesh Bhatt, and Waheeda Rehman, will also be interviewed by Arbaaz.
