Sindh educational minister Saeed Ghani has on Saturday (today) proposed to close schools across the province after a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases and death toll.
In a meeting of the steering committee of the Sindh Education Department today, Saeed Ghani has given a proposal to shut schools till class eight.
According to sources, some members of the steering committee advised to close schools in Sindh for up to eighth grade and continue classes for students of classes 9th till 12th.
However, the other proposal given was to close schools for at least two weeks to curb the deadly virus spread.
Furthermore, the Educational minister has also changed school timings during the holy month of Ramadan.
According to the rescheduled time, the hours for primary classes will be 5 days a week from 7:30 am to 11:00 am, while on Fridays the school hours will be till 10:30 am.
Similarly, secondary classes will commence at 8:00 am and will continue till 1:30 pm, however, on Friday classes will end at 12:00 pm noon.
Coronavirus Situation Pakistan
Over 4,723 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in Pakistan in the last 24 hours, BOL News reported on Saturday.
According to the updates by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 84 Covid-19 patients have lost their battle against the contagious virus.
The number of positive cases in Pakistan has reached 682,888 while the death toll has reached 14,697.
Pakistan has conducted 50,186 tests in the last 24 hours and overall 10,347,730 tests have been conducted.
On the contrary, 609,691 patients have recovered while 3,490 patients are in serious condition.
There are 266,173 cases of coronavirus in Sindh, 228,356 in Punjab, 90,262 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 60,197 in Islamabad, 19,679 in Balochistan, 13,176 in Azad Kashmir, and 5,045 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Over 6,523 Covid-19 patients have died in Punjab, 4,506 in Sindh, 2,417 in KP, 574 in Islamabad, 363 in Azad Kashmir, 211 in Balochistan, and 103 in GB.
