“Didn’t realize we had such a large Robotic population”, Sherry Rehman Taunts PM Imran

Sherry Rehman taunts PM Imran

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Sherry Rehman took a jibe at Prime Minister Imran Khan over his recent remarks on the rise of sexual violence in Pakistani society and women’s dressing with ‘fewer clothes’.

Sherry Rehman poked fun at the prime minister’s remarks, wondering whether all men who act in a civilized manner with women are “robots”.

“Just so am clear: are robots all the men who are civilised in their behaviour and interactions with women? Or just those who don’t attack women? In any case, am newly appreciative of all my fellow robot colleagues and friends. Didn’t realise we had such a large AI population,” she tweeted.

Wondering whether the premier would apologize, the PPP leader in another tweet said, “The problem is that many non-robots feel emboldened now to act out predations against women. They have been given sanction by a slew of spokeswomen too now citing culture, and society, no outlets etc. Many women are getting threats. So really, no laughing matter. Will PM apologise?”

However, PM Imran’s remarks led to angry responses on social media, with many accusing the prime minister of blaming women and the way they dress, for rising acts of rapes.

“Men Are Not Robots, If Women Wear Fewer Clothes, It Will Have Impact”: PM

Note that during the interview, the prime minister was asked to respond to his earlier comments linking the incidence of rape to obscenity. In response, he had had said, “It is such nonsense. I never said that […] I said the concept of purdah which is to avoid temptation in society.” He had gone on to say “If you raise temptation within society and all these young guys have nowhere to go, it has consequences.”

The interviewer, the journalist Jonathan Swan, had then asked him whether he thought “that what women wear has any effect, that it is part of this temptation?”

“If a woman is wearing very few clothes, it will have an impact on men unless they are robots. I mean it’s common sense,” the prime minister had replied — a remark that has sparked extreme outrage both on national and international levels.

“Imran Khan exposed his mindset”, says Maryam Condemning PM’s ‘Fewer Clothes’ Remarks

AJK Elections

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has no right to comment on Pakistan’s nuclear programme.

Speaking to the media officials in Islamabad today, Maryam Nawaz referred to PM Imran Khan’s interview on Axios on HBO, said, “I don’t know how to construe this statement,” said Maryam, when asked to share her views on the statement.

She added: “He [the prime minister] is not [an elected] representative of the people of Pakistan. He has been selected and has no right to comment on Pakistan’s nuclear status.”

Maryam went on to say that the premier was not the custodian of the country’s nuclear programme, rather Pakistan’s population of 22 billion was its custodian, for which the people and the leaders had made sacrifices.

“You [the prime minister] should not even talk about Kashmir, on which you have made a deal,” she said.

“You, a selected prime minister, have no right to make such a statement [about the nuclear programme],” she said.

Asked about her opinion on the Prime Minister’s comments on rape in the same interview, Maryam said his views reflected a “criminal mindset”.

Maryam said the premier’s remarks had exposed his mindset.

“[He is] a person who validates rape and holds the victim responsible. Pakistan needs to be rid of this mindset of rape apologists,” she said.

The PML-N leader went on to question whether Zainab’s rape and the motorway incident were a consequence of what the victims were wearing.

“He [the prime minister] should be ashamed,” she said, condemning his remarks.

Maryam added that through his remarks in the interview, the premiere has “insulted rape victims”.

Axios on HBO PM Imran interview

Prime Minister Imran Khan has recently shared his views with an American TV channel HBO Axios which has caused a stir on the social media.

According to media reports, Pakistan has asked American TV channel HBO Axios to explain why it censored Prime Minister Imran Khan’s interview.

In the interview, the prime minister expressed his views on India’s Hindutva ideology. However, the comments were not aired.

Following the episode of censorship, the Government of Pakistan has sought an explanation from the American TV channel regarding the matter.

According to sources, HBO Axois’ decision to censor the premier’s comments qualify as restricted “freedom of expression”. The Information Ministry has been instructed to take up the matter with the American TV channel.

Moreover, HBO has also edited PM Imran’s interview – especially a part of his interview in which he voiced his thoughts on the rising sexual violence in the country.

Prime Minister Office (PMO) yesterday released its own footage of the premier’s full interview in which the prime minister gave a detailed account and solutions to tackle the growing sexual violence.

The interview was aired on Monday, June 21 at 3:00 am PST and was conducted by Jonathan Swan of HBO Axios.

During the interview, the premier said that we do not have discos or nightclubs in Pakistan, it is a completely different society, when you raise temptation within society, young people have nowhere to go.

Talking about sexual violence against women, Imran Khan said that men are not robots, if a woman wears fewer clothes, it will have an impact on men.

Pakistan Will ‘Absolutely Not’ Allow Military Bases To the US

He had also shed light on the issue of giving Pakistani military bases to the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and said that it will “absolutely not” allow this to happen.

“There’s no way we’re going to allow any bases or any sort of action from Pakistani territory into Afghanistan. Absolutely not,” the premier had said.

He said that Pakistan has suffered the most due to the war against terrorism.

“Over 70,000 Pakistanis embraced martyrdom due to US-Afghan war. We have given sacrifices more than anybody else in this war.” He noted that his country is currently hosting three million Afghan refugees.

PM Imran Khan said: “We only want peace and don’t want to be part of any confrontation.”

“Before leaving Afghanistan, the US must find a political solution.”
