Court approvers Rauf Hassan’s bail in anti-state propaganda case

ISLAMABAD: The local court of Islamabad has granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf(PTI)  leader Rauf Hassan from the case registered under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (PECA) Act, 2016.

Judge Abbas Shah of the PECA Act Court of Islamabad held a hearing on post-arrest bail against Rauf Hassan in the case of creating, spreading information related to terrorism on the Internet and explosion. PTI lawyer Ali Bukhari, Mirza Asim Baig and Sardar Masroof appeared in court.

Ali Bukhari gave arguments and said that there was a trial on the revelation of Waqas Janjua. The entire case is based on a statement, 3 women have been granted bail, the bail application of 9 persons is before the court while 9 accused are salaried employees who have not been accused or charged.

During the hearing, the FIA ​​prosecutor read the tweets of the PTI workers and recited the PICA Act in the court and said that the role of all has been clarified in the technical report. All sections apply to Rauf Hassan and section 10 is non-bailable.

The FIA ​​prosecutor opposed the bail, on which the court reserved its decision.

Later, the court accepted the bail plea of ​​PTI leader Rauf Hassan and ordered his release in the case registered under the PECA Act.

Electronic Media Editor, Directors discuss challenges faced by media

LAHORE: The executive committee of the Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors (AEMEND) meeting held to discuss the challenges facing media in the country.

The association’s office bearers from Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Islamabad attended the meeting chaired by AEMEND’s President Azhar Abbas.

The meeting deliberated on problems and challenges faced by media and called upon the federal government to fulfill its promise to revoke Peca Act and take all stakeholders into confidence before amending and implementing media laws.

The meeting condemned registration of sedition cases and vindictive actions against journalists.

Expressing concern over the issuance of notices by Pakistan Electronic Media Authority (Pemra) to TV channels, the AEMEND decided to exercise the right of legal recourse against the authority’s action. The association also decided that an AEMEND representative delegation would meet the Pemra chief in this regard.

AEMEND’s executive committee also decided to arrange training of reporters and producers for effectively implementing journalists’ code of conduct, besides holding an international seminar in connection with the day to mark freedom of media in Islamabad.

The meeting appreciated implementation of Journalists Protection Act in Sindh, and urged the federal and other provincial governments to take sufficient measures to ensure protection of journalists. The AEMEND also demanded increase in the salaries of media workers keeping in view mounting inflation in the country.
