Motorway Police lodged first FIR for exceeding speed limits

LAHORE: The National Highway and Motorway Police (NH&MP) has registered the first FIR over exceeding speed limits and also arrested the driver.

Motorway police have started registering cases for exceeding speed limits to 150km/hour.

NH&MP spokesman, the speeding incident took place at the motorway M4 near Multan, where a vehicle was going at a speed of 173 km / hour.

NH&MP spokesman said the case has been registered in the police station under the provisions of negligence and exceeding speed limits. Rahim Khan, a resident of Peshawar, has been detained and handed over to the local police.

The spokesman said that IG Motorway Police Rifat Mukhtar Raja has been ordered to register cases against speeding.

Earlier, National Highways and Motorways Police (NH&MP) had launched a special campaign against speed limit violations on the orders of Inspector General of Police Riffat Mukhtar Raja, and warned drivers of registration of cases in case of reaching or surpassing 150 km/hour speed on the upscale inter-city highways.

In a statement issued , the NH&MP spokesman said that FIRs would be got registered against the drivers and vehicle would be impounded.

Generally, the speed limit on motorways for cars, jeep and LTV vehicles is 120 km/h and 110 km/h for heavy transport vehicles, and passenger vehicles, the spokesman said adding that there would be no leniency in case of violations on motorways.
