Mawra Hocane Reflects On Her Weight & Memory Loss In ‘Nauroz’

Lollywood actress Mawra Hocane, renowned for her vibrant personality and acting prowess, recently shared insights into her portrayal of the character Rishtina in the upcoming drama series “Nauroz.” In an interview, she candidly discussed the challenges she faced and the profound impact the role had on her.

Regarding the scene where her character scavenges for food, Hocane revealed, “It happened, it was real. I can’t explain Nauroz right now because I don’t know who I was while performing Rishtina.” She also explained that she doesn’t remember much about the character or the process of playing the role, possibly due to the physical toll it took on her. She stated, “I lost a lot of weight because I knew I was playing a very young girl. I was underweight. I lost six kilogrammes, maybe that’s why I don’t remember much of it. Because I wasn’t eating anything except the necessary. I was on a calorie deficit.”

Reflecting on the impact of the role, Hocane expressed, “I have learned so much from it. It has brought me closer to reality and has changed my perspective on life.” She particularly mentioned a scene where her character visits a food vendor, sharing, “People were [waving] me away because they didn’t want me to touch them, so I wondered how a person who looks like that must feel.”

Hocane revealed that “Nauroz” was offered to her during the lockdown when another project, “Neem,” was put on hold. She expressed excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to work with director Shehzad Kashmiri again, stating, “I had concerns about the progress of ‘Neem’, whether it would be filmed or not. That’s when he presented me with another project. Although we have only written three episodes, I thought, ‘What? I am getting another project with Shehzad Kashmiri?’ It was truly exciting!”

Hocane praised Kashmiri’s ability to bring out her experiences, talent, and physical strength, regardless of her state of mind. She commended his collaborative nature as a director and producer, highlighting the positive working relationship they share.

“Nauroz” is a series comprising 12 to 16 episodes that explores the impact of social media on human self, identity, and consciousness. The first episode is scheduled to air on July 13th.
