Modi writes letter to Nawaz Sharif

Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi has penned down a letter to Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to condole the sad demise of his mother, Begum Shamim.

PM Narendra Modi says he is sad to hear the death of Begum Shamim Akhtar, in a letter delivered to PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz.

According to the reports, Indian High Commissioner sent the letter to Maryam Nawaz on Dec 11.

“Simplicity of Begum Shamim Akhtar is impressive. I met her during my visit in 2015,” read the letter.

However, Modi is the only Prime Minister who came to the limelight to express condolences with Nawaz Sharif over the death of his mother.

Nawaz Sharif himself is in London and Maryam Nawaz, his daughter, received the letter at Jati Umar, the sources said.

PML-N suspends all political activities until Begum Shamim’s funeral

PML-N suspends political activities

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has announced to suspend all scheduled political activities until the funeral prayers of Begum Shamim Akhtar, who passed away on Sunday morning.

“We have suspended all activities of the PML-N until the funeral of Mian Nawaz Sharif’s mother”, PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said on Twitter.

“May God give courage to the family to bear this tragedy. Aameen,” she wrote.

Begum Shamim Akhtar, the mother of Nawaz Sharif, as well as Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and the party’s president, Shahbaz Sharif — had died on Sunday morning aged 90.

To offer condolences on the sad demise of Begum Shamim, Prime Minister Imran Khan, President Arif Alvi, COAS Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chairman CPEC Asim Saleem Bajwa and PPP Co-chairman Asif Zardari express deep grief.

The political figures also prayed for the departed soul in eternal peace.

Begum Shamim Akhtar, 90, breathed her last on Sunday morning. Her condition had been fragile due to her old age.

Earlier in February, late Begum Shamim had departed for London to see her ailing son Nawaz Sharif.

Mother of Mian Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shahbaz Sharif has passed away.

Begum Shamim Akhtar, 90, breathed her last today (Sunday).

“Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mian Shahbaz Sharif’s respected mother has passed away,” senior PML-N leader Ataullah Tarar tweeted.

To pay their heartfelt condolences, Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) expressed grief on the demise of Begum Shamim.

PM Imran is saddened to hear about the sad demise and prayed for the departed soul.

On the other hand, COAS Bajwa has on Sunday paid heartfelt condolences on demise of Begum Shamim.

DGISPR Major General Babar Iftikhar tweeted:

COAS expresses grief and heartfelt condolences on sad demise of Begum Shamim Akhtar mother of Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif / Mian Shehbaz Sharif “May Allah Almighty bless the departed soul in eternal peace – Ameen.”

Earlier in February, Begum Shamim Akhter departed for London to see her ailing son Nawaz Sharif.

PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said Begum was advised not to travel in the light of her health and age.

Moreover, Begum Shamim Akhtar’s condition had been fragile due to her old age.
