Former naval chief Admiral (r) Iftikhar Sirohey passes away

ISLAMABAD: Former Naval Chief and former Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Iftikhar Ahmed  Sirohey passed away in Islamabad on Thursday.

Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf has expressed condolences on the sad demise of Iftikhar Sirohey and paid tribute to him on his services for the country.

Iftikhar Sirohey joined the Pak Navy in 1955, he participated in the wars of 1965 and 1971, while Admiral (R) Iftikhar Sirohey was the head of the Navy from 1986 to 1988.

Iftikhar Ahmed Sirohey was also the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee 1988 to 1991.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow and grief over demise of former Naval Chief Admiral (retd) Iftikhar Ahmed Sirohey.

In a press statement, the prime minister prayed for the elevation of ranks of the departed soul in Jannah.

He also extended his heartfelt condolences to the family members and paid tribute to Admiral Sirohey for his dedicated services to the Pakistan Navy.

Pakistan Navy is fully prepared to conduct AMAN-25

BEIJING: Chief of the Naval Staff of the Pakistan Navy, Admiral Naveed Ashraf has said that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy has participated in all previous editions of AMAN exercises, and he expects that PLA Navy will participate in AMAN-25 and is looking forward to hosting PLA Navy leadership during the AMAN dialogue.

In an exclusive interview with Global Times ahead of the AMAN-25 multinational exercise to be hosted by Pakistan Navy in early February in port city of Karachi, he said that the main objective of AMAN is to foster regional cooperation for the maintenance of good order at sea, improving interoperability, share experiences, understand each other, and exhibit united resolve against terrorism and organized crimes in the maritime domain.

He said that the Pakistan Navy is fully prepared and geared up to conduct AMAN-25 with enhanced participation of friendly countries in a professional and befitting manner.

It is worth noting that the previous edition of the exercise held in February 2023, which witnessed the participation from 50 countries across the globe.

“Keeping the same spirit, we are hopeful that this edition will also mark a distinctive chapter in history of AMAN exercises with enhanced participation of friendly countries,” Ashraf said.

Ashraf revealed that the maiden AMAN Dialogue will be held in tandem with AMAN-25.

“The AMAN Dialogue aims to promote understanding in maritime security issues, finding ways to enhance cooperation at sea, and discussing security linked to the blue economy.”

“We have been honored by the regular participation of PLA Navy in all previous editions of AMAN exercises,” Ashraf said, noting that this has added highlights to the exercise and is a reflection of the two countries’ common resolve to come together for peace and security in the region.

ISLAMABAD: Turkish Navy Delegation headed by Chief of Staff Turkish Naval Forces Command Vice Admiral Ibrahim Ozdem KOÇER, visited Naval Headquarters for 6th Pakistan Navy Turkish Navy Expert Level Staff Talks.

Upon arrival at Naval Headquarters, the visiting dignitary was received by Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ovais Ahmed Bilgrami.

Later on, the Turkish Chief of Staff called on the Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf. Both the dignitaries discussed professional matters of common interest.

The visiting Admiral appreciated the Pakistan Navy’s contribution to collaborative security through various initiatives, including contribution in CTFs 150 and 151, the conduct of Exercise AMAN and the Regional Maritime Security Patrol (RMSP).

During the Staff Talks, wide-ranging matters related to operations, training and technical domains came under discussion.

The visiting delegation appreciated strong bilateral relations and discussed further opportunities of collaboration.

Pakistan and Turkiye enjoy brotherly relations and the navies of both countries collaborate in various domains including joint production and upgradation of various platforms and systems.

Naval chief confers awards to naval officers, civilians

RAWALPINDI: Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf on Monday conferred Military Awards to Navy Officers, CPOs, Sailors and Civilians as the chief guest of the investiture ceremony.

In the ceremony, 4 officers were awarded Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Military) and 4 officers were awarded with Tagha-i-Imtiaz (Military).

104 Chief Petty Officers and Sailors were awarded Tagha-e-Khidmat (Military) Class-I, II and III, an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) news release said.

Some 44 Officers, Chief Petty Officers/Sailors and Civilians were also awarded Letters of Commendation by the Chief of the Naval Staff.

ISLAMABAD: Command & Staff Conference of Pakistan Navy concluded at Naval Headquarters, Islamabad.

The Conference was chaired by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf.

During the conference, matters related to national security, geo strategic affairs, combat readiness and training of troops were discussed. The conference assessed the evolving maritime situation in the region due to ongoing conflict in Middle East.

Under the prevailing maritime situation in the Middle East, deployment of PN Ship for the protection of Pakistan’s merchant ships was discussed. Progress on PN projects including future plans was also reviewed and way forward was deliberated.

The Naval Chief emphasized on maintaining perpetual combat readiness to effectively thwart any aggression against Pakistan. The Naval Chief lauded the initiatives undertaken towards capability development through acquisition of state of the art platforms and emerging technologies.

The Admiral expressed full confidence over high state of operational preparedness of Pakistan Navy to meet maritime challenges while safeguarding the maritime frontiers of Pakistan.
