Nirmala Maghani issues Rs.100m legal notice to Xulfi in Tu Jhoom controversy

In Tu Jhoom controversy, Nirmala Maghani’s legal team served Xulfi with Rs. 100 million legal notice on Monday for a copyright breach involving Coke Studio season 14th song.

The notification, issued to the musical show’s producer, Xulfi, indicated that Nirmala had provided Tu Mera Ranjha compositions back in June 2021 in the hopes of getting her big break, but Xulfi did not answer. Instead, he came up with the same song for Coke Studio a year later.

The notification demanded that Xulfi stop using her song instead of obtaining formal authorization from Nirmala.

The issued notice read, “My client (Nirmala Maghani) on June 14, 2021, sent her compositions including the composition of Tu Mera Ranjha to you on your mobile, through WhatsApp messenger which all were in the form of voice notes.”

“That as per the copyright laws you don’t have the right to telecast/broadcast or upload on YouTube the said song unless you have obtained permission from my client as it’s made based on notes and composition of my client.”

“That you are hereby instructed that you should apply [for] and obtain permission or license from my client and unless said is granted to you please remove the song from every social media website, YouTube and from [the] album of Coke Studio 14 as it is infringing upon the rights of my client.”

GIRAFFE PAKISTAN, the company which Xulfi co-founded, and is also part of Coke Studio 14 responding to the notice, said, “We have received a notice last evening and our legal team will respond to it through the correct channels in due course. As such, we are constrained to limit our responses in deference to the legal process initiated by Ms Maghani.

The first match of the sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 6) will kick off tomorrow (20th February) between Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings.

Before that, the PSL opening ceremony 2021, as per the tradition will begin before the match. According to the details, the opening ceremony of PSL 6 will be aired on Pakistan Television (PTV) and other private channels at 6:45 PM.

It was reported earlier that the opening ceremony would be held in Karachi’s National Stadium but due to the place being designated as a bio-secure bubble, the ceremony was recorded in Istanbul, Turkey.

The performers for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 6 opening ceremony have been announced.

The opening ceremony lineup includes Atif Aslam, Imran Khan, Humaima Malick, and Groove Mera superstars, Naseebo Lal, Aima Baig, and Young Stunners. 

The opening ceremony of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 6 will take place in Istanbul, Turkey on 20th February 2021, and singers Naseebo Lal, Aima Baig, and Young Stunners had reached the city earlier for the shoot.

Earlier today, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had disclosed that Pakistani singer Ali Zafar would also be performing at Pakistan Super League (PSL) 6 opening ceremony, however, the singer negated the statement and said,

“I will not be performing at the opening ceremony.”

PSL Tickets:

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had finalized PSL 6 ticket selling policy and it would go online within the next 48 hours.

Fans can buy only one PSL 6 ticket per CNIC whereas children below 18 are required to register with their B-form number, added sources.

As many as 14 enclosures here at the National Stadium will be opened to cater to the maximum capacity of 7500 ticketed people in each match. Out of these 14, two will be just for families.

Seat numbers will be allocated to each ticket holder and a gap of three seats will be mandatory between families/people. Food stalls will be installed outside the enclosures, sources added.

On the other hand, the ticket prices will be slightly high as compared to last year.

The song Groover Mera is recorded in the voices of Naseebo Lal, Aima Baig, and Young Stunners. The video features star cricketers Babar Azam, Shadab Khan, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shaan Masood, and Wahab Riaz.

According to the details PSL 6 anthem has received 4.3 million views on YouTube, whereas, PSL fans in other countries like UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Kuwait also loved the anthem.

On YouTube Groove Mera trends #1 in Pakistan and UAE, #9 in Qatar and KSA, #18 in Oman, and  #31 in Kuwait.

According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the song highlights “swing and feel of the movements of cricketers”.

After the release of “Groove Mera” fans took to social media and shared their disappointments over the new anthem.

Earlier, former Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar had criticized the PSL anthem and called it the worst song ever in the history of PSL.

The Rawalpindi Express said that the PSL 6 song “Groove Mera” is the worst song ever released.

“If the 10 worst songs of the PSL are compiled, this song will be number one. Do you have any shame?”

He said that his children are also scared of the song and use it to make them sleep.

“My kids are scared of this song. When they don’t sleep, I tell them I’ll play it for them. That immediately scares them,” he said.
