Pakistani actor and former VJ Madiha Imam recently opened up about how traveling played a key role in deciding to marry her now-husband, Indian entrepreneur Moji Basar. During an appearance on Hina Altaf’s podcast, Madiha revealed that exploring Dubai together allowed her to evaluate their compatibility before tying the knot.

“I actually met my husband – who is my husband now – in Dubai,” Madiha shared. She explained that she had planned to stay with her sister in the UAE and insisted to her mother that she wanted to meet Moji there. “I told my mother I wanted to see the guy I want to marry, and if I want to marry him, I have to date him.” Her mother, however, was initially puzzled and asked, “What do you mean, date? First, explain that to me!”

Madiha emphasized the importance of traveling together, saying, “When you travel with somebody, you find out a lot about a person – their mannerisms, how they talk to other people.” Secretly, she was taking notes throughout the trip. “I was making my notes and all that, although he didn’t know that,” she laughed.

Their travel experience proved meaningful, and the couple eventually married in May 2023.

Actor and VJ Syeda Madiha Imam, who married Indian filmmaker Moji Basar last year, has shared her thoughts on long-distance marriages, advising against them based on her own experiences.

In a recent discussion with renowned star Faysal Quraishi on his YouTube channel, Imam expressed her belief that such relationships can be “terrible.”

She explained, “It was destined to be in my case but if anyone has a choice, I always tell my friends not to do long-distance marriage, now that I’ve experienced it. It’s not easy.”

Imam elaborated on her concerns, stating, “Many a time, the arguments which can end merely by talking it out on each other’s face, they usually stretch into fights over a week or two, only due to the conversations over the text messages.”

Emphasizing the challenges, she maintained, “Long-distance [marriage] is terrible. Of course, there are benefits to it as well, including the longing to meet and see your partner after a long time, but the troubles that the long-distance causes outweigh its pros. So I would rather live with the person than send him heart emoticons to make it up.”

Despite the difficulties, Imam mentioned that she and her husband have made a “practical decision” to focus on their individual careers while nurturing their bond during the times they are apart.

Madiha Imam announced her marriage to Basar in May last year, sharing glimpses of their Nikah ceremony in Dubai, followed by a Valima and a reception in India.
