CJCSC, Iraqi PM agree to expand scope of military cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), General Sahir Shamshad Mirza called on Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia’ Al Sudani and other officials.

CJCSC General Sahir Shamshad Mirza who is on an official visit to Republic of Iraq, also met with Thabet Muhammad Saeed Al-Abbasi, Defence Minister, Abdul Amir Al Shammari, Interior Minister and General Abdul Ameer Rasheed Yar Allah, Chief of Defence Forces.

According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), both sides discussed key areas of interest, including security, defense cooperation and the current regional environment.

The dignitaries explored ways to expand the scope of military cooperation between the two countries and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence ties.

The Iraqi civil and military leadership lauded the professionalism of Pakistan Armed Forces and acknowledged their sacrifices in fight against terrorism.

Upon arrival at Iraq Armed Forces Headquarters, smartly turned out military contingent presented “Guard of Honour” to the Chairman CJCSC.

Pakistan, Iraq agree to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation

NEW YORK: Pakistan and Iraq agreed to further deepen and broaden the scope of existing bilateral ties and exploit the potential of enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation between both countries.

The bilateral ties were discussed in a meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and his Iraqi counterpart Mohammad Shia’ Al Sudani on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly here.

The prime minister lauded the cordial ties between the two brotherly countries, reinforced by strong historical, cultural and religious affinities.

He also commended the excellent arrangements made by the Government of Iraq for the Pakistani pilgrims.

The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

They noted with grave concern the ongoing Israeli carnage on Gaza and the ensuing humanitarian catastrophe.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and holding Israel accountable for the Gaza genocide.
