‘No more shame, no more excuses and no more blame’: says Mahira Khan

Mahira Khan

Pakistani superstar Mahira Khan recently appeared on a podcast Positive Solace’, with Attika Choudhary where she sheds light on how whenever a rape case surfaces, public concerns, and questions become heavily centered around what the victim was wearing, where she was, and what she was doing at the time of the assault.

She discussed the problems of victim-blaming in rape cases, the actress said that ‘No more shame, no more excuses, and no more blame.’

While talking about a rape case, whenever any rape case surfaces, public concerns, and questions become heavily centered around what the victim was wearing, where she was, and what she was doing at the time of the assault. “Those are the wrong questions to ask”, the Raess actress said.  Even in the most educated of households, these are the questions that are asked, she pressed, despite the fact that rape happens to women clad in burkas, children in their own homes, and even to young boys, logically rendering all such questions and allegations baseless and meaningless.

Talking about her film Verna, Mahira said, “many found it hard to sympathize with and relate to her character, who was raped in the film, because of the fact that she was someone who wore jeans and spoke English. Simply because of these reasons, psychologically, for the public, whatever happened to her became okay, owing to this very mindset which leads up to questions such as ‘Why did she wear jeans?’, ‘Why did she go there?’, ‘Why did she do this?’. Even though all that is absolutely and thoroughly- irrelevant, “and that needs to be ingrained, if not in the generation before us, then in the generation after us.”

I always wanted to direct or produce, says Mahira Khan

Mahira Khan

Superstar Mahira Khan has stepped into the production side, with her first project based on sports named Baarwaan Khiladi.

We have always seen Mahira Khan in her super-hit characters either in TV serials or movies, but this is the first time that the Humsafar actress would be producing her own series.

She described Baarwaan Khiladi as a “coming of age story […] about friendships, relationships, unity, failure, success, love, and courage.”

“To be honest, I’ve always been inclined to getting behind the camera, always wanted to direct or produce. But I am also very lazy when it comes to finally decide and doing something,” she told an international news outlet.

“My co-producer, Nina Kashif, gave me that push! It’s very small at the moment. I want to get my hands dirty with smaller projects first, make stories that get me excited,” the Superstar starlet continued.

Mahira was asked why she did not cast herself in the project, to which she replied,

“There wasn’t a role that suited me. Maybe if I was younger, I would have played a character in it.”

Earlier, Mahira had shared the synopsis of the upcoming web series based on cricket.

“A coming of age story set against the backdrop of the OG of all games – Cricket. A story about friendships, relationships, unity, failure, success, love, and courage. A small peak into a labor of love and hard work.. from all of us to all of you.Baarwaan Khiladi”
