As many as 200 families in Karachi’s Surjani Town were forced to relocate as rains continued to wreak havoc in the city.

Residents of Yousaf Goth, Bismah Town, Sector 4-B and other low lying areas in Surjani Town had to relocate due to flood like situation in the area. The residents were moved with the help of Rangers and Edhi workers in trucks and boats to safe locations.

The latest spell of rain in Karachi have submerged many areas of the metropolis, damaging houses and vehicles in low lying areas.

According to reports, with more than 170mm rain, Surjani Town is one the worst hit-area of the city. People in Surjani Town’s Sector 4-B were trapped inside their houses as the authorities failed to drain out the rain water.

People of the area faced problems as urban flooding damaged cars, furniture at homes and important home appliances.

Moreover, in New Karachi’s sector 5-E and the Hyderi Market — rainwater flowed from the storm drains which could not be cleaned in due time due to the encroachments — entering streets and houses.

The rains were followed with subsequent power outages across the city, with several areas of the metropolis plunged into darkness after nearly 600 K-Electric feeders tripped.

Areas that had experienced power outages included Surjani Town, Orangi Town, North Karachi, New Karachi, Liaquatabad, Jamshed Quarters, FC Area, Khamosh Colony, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Ahsanabad, Shadman Town, Safoora Goth, FB Area, Power House, parts of Clifton, among others.

According to reports, with more than 170mm rain, Surjani Town is one the worst hit-area of the city.

In an exclusive coverage by BOL News, it can be seen that people in Surjani Town’s Sector 4-B are trapped inside their houses as the authorities failed to drain out the rain water.

People of the area are facing problems as the flood like situation damaged cars, furniture at homes and important home appliances.

The authorities have failed to make any arrangements to drain out rainwater from the area to provide relief to the masses.

Moreover, up to waist-deep water reported across Surjani Town and other areas paralyzing the main roads and localities quickly turned into septic tanks.

On Friday, the downpour in Karachi and other parts of the provinces claimed seven lives including four killed by lightning strikes in Tharparker’s Mithi and Chachro and one in Thatta.

The citizens of Karachi faced extreme difficulties after roads and streets turned into rivers after the latest spell of monsoon downpour started penetrating in various parts of Sindh as well.

According to the Met office, strong monsoon currents are expected to penetrate in Sindh till Monday. Under the influence of this system, rain/wind-thundershower, with few moderate to isolated heavy falls, are expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu, Tharparker, Mirpurkhas, Umar Kot, Sanghar, Sukkur, Larkana, Lasbella, Khuzdar, Barkhan, Zhob, Musa Khel, Loralai, Kohlu and Sibbi till Monday.

After intense heat in Karachi, the fourth spell of rain lashes parts of Karachi here on Thursday (today), turning the weather pleasant.

Areas including Saddar, Korangi, Landhi, Malir, University Road, Old City Area and Garden East receive light to heavy rainfall.

On the other hand, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in Sindh, South Punjab and eastern parts of Balochistan from Thursday (today) till Saturday along with a warning of urban flooding for Karachi and Hyderabad.

According to the PMD, a monsoon low pressure from the Bay of Bengal is likely to approach Sindh today in the evening or night.

Widespread rain/wind-thundershowers, with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall, are expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Tharparker, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Tando Allah Yar, Matiyari, Tando Muhammad Khan, Jamshoro, Dadu and Shaheed Benazirabad from today till the next three days.

Mainly hot and humid weather is expected in most parts of the country during the next 12 hours, while rain-wind-thundershowers are expected in South Punjab, Sindh and eastern Balochistan.

According to the PMD, a monsoon low pressure from the Bay of Bengal is likely to approach Sindh today in the evening or night.

“Under the influence of this weather system, strong monsoon currents are expected to penetrate in Sindh, South Punjab and Eastern Balochistan from Thursday (evening/night) to Saturday.”
