Heavy monsoon rains submerge Rawalpindi and Islamabad; Rescue Operations Underway

Rawalpindi and Islamabad have been severely affected by unprecedented monsoon rains, leading to widespread flooding across the twin cities. According to official reports, a record 129 millimeters of rain has been recorded, causing water levels in Nullah Lai to surge dramatically—reaching 16 feet at Kotarri and 14 feet at Gwalmandi Bridge.

In response to the rising water levels, siren alarms have been sounded around Nullah Lai, prompting immediate alerts to rescue agencies, WASA, and Civil Defense. The Managing Director of WASA has activated coordination with the Triple One Brigade, and the military has been placed on standby to assist with emergency operations if needed.

Meteorological Department officials have forecasted continued heavy rainfall in the region, raising concerns over further flooding. Meanwhile, in Mansehra, intermittent rain persists for the third consecutive day, bringing a cool breeze that temporarily alleviates the heat but also exacerbates ongoing flood conditions.

Severe flooding has been reported in Nallah Khinar, River Siran, and other streams, with reports of homes and roads submerged. In Ladiyan village on Chaky Road, residents have been trapped amid rising waters, with the Nallah passing through the area flooding extensively. The Rawalpindi Race Club has been inundated, and approximately 15-20 individuals are stranded on trees and rooftops nearby.
