Top search terms of Google in the year 2022. Wordle, the web-based word game regarded as the purest leisure in the English-speaking world, has been named. According to Google’s annual “Year in Search 2022” report, the famous online game Wordle topped the list globally.
The game was followed by India versus. England, Ukraine, and Queen Elizabeth are on the search chart.
The popularity of the five-letter guessing game peaked in February of this year. It is a simple, shareable, and absolutely free word-guessing game that has exploded in popularity on Twitter recently. The game’s instructions are straightforward: participants must predict a five-letter word by typing letters into boxes. Colour coding allows them to see which letters they got right or wrong. If the letter from their guess does not appear in the target word, it turns grey. It will become yellow if it is in the proper word but in the wrong position. If it is in the correct word and place, it will become green. Players get six opportunities to get it correctly.
According to The New York Times, Josh Wardle, a software programmer in Brooklyn, created the game for his boyfriend, Palak Shah, who loves word games. As a result, he created a one-of-a-kind guessing game for the two of them. Mr Wardle named the game Wordle after his surname.
After playing the game with his companion for a few months, Mr Wardle thought he might be onto something. Then he shared it with his family members via their WhatsApp group. It became an obsession there as well. Finally, in October 2021, he made it available worldwide.
According to a Google release, in 2022, India experienced all-time high search moments in cricket and football, celebrated diversity in film and sport, and rediscovered fun experiences in the outside world, all while asking questions about global and local news events, emerging concepts in tech and finance, and helpful government schemes.
“India’s passion for sport reached new heights this year in Search. The Indian Premier League led the pack of trending searches in India, while queries for the T20 World Cup and Asia Cup reached an all-time high,” the release mentioned.
“Not only on home turf, India dominated sports trends globally, securing all top 5 slots in the global trending matches list; football saw similar excitement, with searches for the ongoing FIFA World Cup peaking this year and making it to the year’s trending searches, along with the Indian Super League.”
