Gmail End-to-End Encryption Beta Expands to Workspace Users. The company’s encryption technology adds an extra degree of security to emails and files sent over the Internet. Google said last year that it would bring client-side encryption software to market by providing users control over the encryption keys and who will have access to their data. The service has stated that additional customers will be able to apply to beta-test the feature.
Google said in a blog post that it is increasing beta access to its client-side encryption (CSE) in Gmail on the Web for select Google Workspace Enterprise and Education clients.
Google Drive, Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Google Meet, and Google Calendar currently support a beta version of CSE. Google Drive received the feature in 2021.
According to the firm, qualifying customers of Google Workspace Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, and Education Standard can apply to join in beta testing through Google’s help centre until January 20 of next year. When the feature is available, users will be able to enable end-to-end encryption by selecting a padlock button when writing an email.
