NEPRA approves electricity price hike by Rs1.6 per unit

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved the increase in the price of electricity by Rs1.6 per unit here on Wednesday.

The decision was taken during a meeting held by the authority to discuss fuel price adjustment for the months of October and November, per sources.

In the case of fuel price adjustment for October, electricity prices will be increased by Rs0.29 per unit. As for November’s fuel price adjustment, the increase in electricity price will be by Rs0.77 per unit.

The increase in the price of electricity will impose an additional burden of Rs8.40 billion on consumers.

Earlier on Deccember 14, NEPRA hadincreased the rate of electricity by Rs 1.11 per unit for one month. The price increase came in the wake of the September fuel price adjustment.

The cost of generating electricity in September was Rs 3.95 per unit and the pre-generation cost of electricity was Rs 2.84 per unit in September.

The decision will impose a burden of more than Rs 12 billion on power consumers. Additional collection from consumers will be made in December bills. However, the decision will not be applicable to K-electric consumers.

However, electricity production cost for the month of August remained at Rs3.68 per unit.
