‘Dr. Phil’ coming to an end after 21 seasons

Dr. Phil
  • “Dr. Phil” is coming to an end after more than two decades.
  • Philip McGraw told that his daytime programme would end after 21 seasons.
  • Dr Phil won’t be off the air for very long.

After airing on television for more than two decades, “Dr. Phil” is coming to an end. On Tuesday, Philip McGraw told Variety that his daytime programme would end after 21 seasons this spring.

The host, 71, told the publication, “I have been fortunate with more than 25 fantastic years in daytime television.

Millions of viewers and thousands of guests have benefited from our assistance on this show in areas ranging from mental health to child-rearing to addiction. Although I’m leaving the day job behind after an amazing chapter in my life and career, there is still so much I want to do.

Dr Phil, according to CBS Media Ventures, won’t be off the air for very long.

McGraw “plans to announce a major prime-time relationship, anticipated for an early 2024 launch,” the business said in a statement.

In the wake of other notable performers like Ellen Degeneres, Wendy Williams, and Oprah Winfrey — who gave Dr Phil his start in the 1990s — McGraw’s exit from daytime television signals the end of an era for the network.

Less than a year after a dozen former and present employees complained about the supposedly “traumatising” climate on set, the adored talk show presenter decided to discontinue the programme.

“Everyone just seemed to be in a bad mood. One former employee told BuzzFeed News, “You would come into the facility and there was just a tangible fear and anxiousness. Everyone who works on “Dr Phil,” the mental health programme, has awful mental health because of the appalling working conditions.

While several employees claimed they had “nightmares” about going to work, others supported the TV star, claiming the “intense” environment was “always professional.”

Despite the fact that none of the stories specifically blamed McGraw for the “bad climate,” H. Patrick Morris, his attorney, “categorically denied[ed]” all the claims.

Despite the scandal, until last year, “Dr Phil” remained the most-watched daytime syndicated talk show. The show averaged 2 million viewers per episode in its now-final season, despite losing the top spot to “Live! With Kelly and Ryan”
