Don McLean

Donald McLean is an American singer. He was born on October 2, 1945. He began performing for his family and friends when he was young and later became interested in folk music.

McLean got his start playing around New York City’s folk clubs during the mid-1960s. He was elected to the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2004.

On the 50th anniversary of his popular single “American Pie,” McLean was rewarded with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday.

He said, “At the turn of the century, I was invited to the Clinton White House. I sang in front of 600,000 people in front of the reflecting pool as you look at the Washington Monument, and they were all singing ‘American Pie’ the last day of that millennium.”

“I’ve had some wonderful experiences,” he added.
