UHS delays medical exams till Feb 1 after students protest

On Wednesday, the University of Health Sciences (UHS) announced that all the medical exams, MBBS and MBBS, have been postponed till 1st February 2021.

Earlier, medical students across Pakistan protested on social media and demanded to postpone the exams, even #DelayAllProffsUHS also made a trend on Twitter. The University, however, decided to delay the exams.

“The professional exams have been postponed on the directives of the NCOC,” read the notification. “The new date of the exams will be announced soon.”

Javed Akram, UHS Vice-Chancellor, also announced that the university’s exams have been postponed and told that new dates will be shared soon.

“All exams including the final year shall be delayed for about 12 days or so. The new date sheet shall inshAllah be notified by tomorrow,” he tweeted. “My humble request to my dearest students please concentrate on your studies while I wish them all the best in their forthcoming exams.”

#DelayAllProffsUHS started trending on Twitter today, as students took to social media to demand the University of Health Sciences (UHS) postpone all scheduled examinations following the virus outbreak in the country.

The government has on Monday announced reopening schools, colleges and other educational institutions in a phased manner.

Pakistani Twitterati called out on the university to postpone the examinations in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Health Dr Faisal Sultan tweeted that the government would discuss medical colleges’ examinations in an important meeting tomorrow.

One person said that it wasn’t possible for students to study in the current pandemic environment, raising alarm at the lack of SOPs being followed in hostels.

“Are medical students not humans?” asked another person.

Another user raised voice against conducting physical exams when lectures had been delivered online to curb the spread of the virus.

One person tweeted: “Medical students’ lives matter too.”

Universities Across Pakistan To Reopen From Feb. 1

Earlier in a day, the education ministers’ conference has decided to reopen universities across the country on February 1st 2021.

The education ministers held an important meeting today to make a final decision regarding the reopening of educational institutions.

The federal government announced to reopen all educational institutions for grade 9 to 12 from 11 January. While grade 1 to grade 8 classes will resume from January 20.

Schools And Colleges Across Pakistan To Reopen From Jan. 18

Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood announced that schools and colleges will reopen in Pakistan from January 18.

announced that in the first phase, classes 9 to 12 would be allowed to resume from January 18.

In the second phase, the minister said, primary to class 8 will resume on January 25.

The minister said that universities and other higher education institutions will reopen from February 1 in the third and last phase.

The minister announced that board exams have been postponed till May and June as students did not have enough time to prepare for their exams.
