Queen’s Surprising Passion of Jazz and Duke Ellington have Revealed!

British jazz musician Gary Crosby said, “Ellington came up, and her appreciation of music and instruments and how they’re amplified just floored me for about a minute.”

Queen Elizabeth like blues and jazz, and it appears that American jazz legend Duke Ellington is on her playlist.

On Radio Two’s Blues Show on Monday evening, British jazz artist Gary Crosby stated that the monarch, 96, made him “so pleased” with her particular interest in musical genres.

Crosby also expressed his delight at earning the Queen’s Medal for Music in 2019 from the show’s host, Cerys Matthews. The Queen presented the accolade to the double bassist at Buckingham Palace, making him the first jazz player to win it.

When Matthews inquired if the Queen liked blues, Crosby said, “Duke Ellington.”

“Ellington came up, and her appreciation of music and instruments and how they’re amplified just floored me for about a minute.”

“I just sat there and, ‘Is this for real? The Queen is speaking to me about re-amplification of acoustic string instruments.”
