Indian actor Aly Goni expresses his deep sorrow over the passing of Pakistan’s legendary comedian Umer Sharif after a prolonged illness on Saturday.

Taking to Twitter, the Ye Hain Mohabbatein star showered the undisputed King of Comedy with tribute and sincere prayers. “RIP #UmerShareef sir. Allah jannat ul firdous ata farmaye #legend,” wrote Aly Goni. 

Also, Indian celebrities like Anupam Kher, Jaaved Jaaferi, along with Pakistani actors Hareem Farooq and Mehwish Hayat, as well as American comedian Jeremy Mclellan have also taken to social media to join those mourning while paying tribute to the legendary icon.

Legendary comedian Umer Sharif, 66, passed away in Germany on Saturday after battling serious health problems.

Sharif’s demise was confirmed by Pakistan’s ambassador to Germany, Dr Mohammad Faisal.

“With deep sorrow, it is announced that Mr Umer Sharif has passed away in Germany,” he tweeted. “Our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Our CG is present at the hospital to assist the family in every way.”

Before his demise, the iconic human being had boarded an air ambulance for treatment at a hospital in the US on Sept 28. However, his condition deteriorated on the way and was admitted to a hospital during a stopover in Germany.

The veteran actor’s medical condition became a subject of national concern after he made a video appeal to Prime Minister Imran Khan to help him secure a visa to travel abroad for medical treatment.

The federal government had assured him that it would help and the Sindh government also stepped in, sanctioning Rs40 million for his treatment.

Veteran comedian Umer Sharif is leaving for the US today (Tuesday) after his health improves slightly.

PPP leader Murtaza Wahab confirmed his departure via his Twitter handle. “Umer Sharif sb is on his way to the airport for his flight to Washington. Plz remember him in ur prayers,” he wrote.

Also, sources told that the ailing comedian had been shifted to an ambulance from where he was taken to the airport.

A team of foreign doctors had conducted a medical check-up of Sharif at a private hospital and interacted with him.

His family sources disclosed that the doctors’ team had declared Sharif fit for air travel.

Umer Sharif also held a telephonic conversation with his physician, Dr. Tariq Shahab, in the US.

Meanwhile, talking to journalists, his son Jawad Umar said that his condition is a little better as compared to yesterday.

A day earlier, the comedian had been shifted to the ICU of a private hospital after his health condition deteriorated, hours before he was to leave for the United States.

Previously, the Sindh government had approved the release of Rs40 million for Sharif’s treatment. The funds are to be used to cover the expense of an air ambulance and other related costs for Sharif’s treatment abroad, stated the order issued by the provincial finance department.

“We are committed to bearing the expenses of Umer Sharif Sahib’s treatment expenditures,” said Sindh government spokesperson, Wahab said. He confirmed that the funds have been released and transferred to the family.

Leading comedian Umer Sharif’s wife Zareen Umer says in her statement that all preparations have been made for Umer Sharif’s treatment at the United States, George Washington Hospital.

In a statement, Zareen Umer said, “The US government had issued visas to them and there is no problem in departure. The air ambulance invoice will be sent to the Sindh government, after which the Sindh government will pay for the air ambulance.”

She further said that all preparations have been made at George Washington Hospital and actress Reema is worried about Umer Sharif’s health.

Meanwhile, Umer Shaif is currently is under treatment at a private hospital in Karachi.

Veteran comedian Umer Sharif has officially been granted a US visa after his appeal to Prime Minister Imran Khan.

“Happy to inform that visa interviews of Umer Sharif sahab’s family have taken place today. Very grateful to US consulate for exempting the presence of Omer bhai for issuance of visa. Let us all continue to pray for good health of one of the grestest comedians of sub continent,” announced PPP leader Murtaza Wahab on his Twitter.

An hour later, he shared that the visa has been issued. “Even happier to inform you that the visa has been issued just now. Thank you to the team at US Consulate for the support extended.”
