Anam Tanveer, a well-known Pakistani actress and TV host, recently shared her thoughts on marriage dynamics in Pakistan during a podcast hosted by Adnan Faisal. She expressed concerns about how marriages in Pakistan have become increasingly complex compared to other parts of the world.
According to Tanveer, “In Pakistan, marriage is approached very differently from other countries where people often marry based on mutual affection, regardless of religious, social, or background differences.” She criticized the societal biases, saying, “For example, someone from an affluent area like DHA might reject marrying someone from a less privileged area like Malir simply because of where they live.”
Tanveer highlighted the unfortunate trend of prioritizing superficial factors like neighborhood over more important aspects like compatibility and personal qualities. She explained, “Nowadays, people seem more focused on a person’s address rather than their character or suitability as a life partner.”
Speaking about her ideal partner, Tanveer emphasized the importance of mutual respect, support for a woman’s career ambitions, and empowerment in a relationship. She also raised concerns about Pakistan’s educational system, advocating for a more accurate portrayal of history that acknowledges the contributions of non-Muslims like Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, whom she noted was a Parsi.
Tanveer, who has appeared in several popular TV dramas such as “Meray Dard Ko Jo Zuban Miley” and “Joru Ka Ghulam,” continues to use her platform to promote awareness about social issues and cultural perspectives in Pakistan.
