PSL 2021: Lahore Qalandars Vs Quetta Gladiators, Match No. 23

PSL 2021: Lahore Qalandars vs Quetta Gladiators, match no 23

Lahore Qalandars will be aiming to bounce back from the defeat they faced at the hands of Islamabad United in the last game as they will take on Quetta Gladiators in match 23 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) sixth edition.

Lahore went down by 28 runs against Islamabad on Saturday after first reducing them to 20 runs for 5 wickets and then being at 86 runs for 2 wickets in 10 overs and chased 153 runs target. They were bowled out for 124 after their middle-order collapsed.

The defeat may be an eye-opener for Lahore head coach Aqib Javed and captain Sohail Akhtar but the side is not going to get panicked and unlikely to make any changes against Quetta.

Sarfaraz Ahmed, the former champions have won just one out of their seven games in the tournament so far and another defeat can throw out them of the contention to qualify for the play-offs.

They will be, undoubtedly, under pressure as their batting and bowling have been disappointing up till now. After being outclassed by Islamabad in the first outing, they were overpowered by strong Peshawar Zalmi’s side.

The match between the two teams is scheduled to start at 6 pm.

PSL 2021: Umar Gul gave reason for Quetta Gladiators' latest defeat

Umar Gul, Quetta Gladiators bowling coach told that they are one pacer short in the middle which dented Quetta’s chance to restrict Peshawar Zalmi on a low total.

Umar said in his post-match talk after Peshawar crushed Quetta by 61 runs, “I will give credit to David Miller who played extremely well throughout and dominated our spinners,”

He added, “In the middle, we were going one pacer short and that is why we could not finish it off well. But if you see our pacers bowled well in the last three overs and early on,”

He further said, “The mistakes which our pacers had made in the previous game I talked to them about those areas and I think they responded well today early in the innings,”

He concluded, “We took a fine start but unfortunately in the middle, our spinners could not live up to the billing and could not deliver the balls which were needed,”

Quetta tasted their sixth defeat from seven games and are now out of the event but according to their bowling coach they would try to address their problems and produce good results in the coming three matches.

PSL 2021: Gladiators’ Andre Russell leaves tournament halfway, returns home

PSL 2021 Andre Russell leaves tournament

After Islamabad United’s Hasan Ali left the tournament, Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 franchise Quetta Gladiators also suffer a major blowout after Andre Russell leaves the tournament halfway.

According to sources, Andre Russell has returned to his country after he was hit by a bouncer by Muhammad Musa and was stretchered off to a hospital following the match.

The Emirati cricketer Zahoor Khan, however, will replace Russell to be the part of Gladiators’ squad, sources added.

The Windies batsman couldn’t take part in last night’s match against Peshawar Zalmi, who defeated the Gladiators by 61 runs in the 19th match of PSL 2021.

Also, Zalmi secured the third spot in the points table after beating Quetta Gladiators on Saturday night.

Note that Mohammad Musa churned out a short delivery, catching Russell off-guard as the latter was in no position to negotiate the bouncer. The ball climbed steeply and hit the batter on the grill.

Naseem Shah Joined In As Andre Russell’s Concussion Substitute

After the 34-year-old player was carried off in a stretcher for further treatment of his concussion, right-arm fast bowler Naseem Shah was roped in as a like-for-like substitute for Russell.

United skipper Shadab Khan didn’t seem happy with Shah replacing Russell and could be seen taking to umpire Aleem Dar before the second innings.

Earlier, resuming after a heavy one-year-long ban for violating WADA’s anti-doping whereabouts clause, Russell appeared to take part in the recently concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021. After representing Islamabad United in the first few matches, he was forced to pull out from the tournament due to a hamstring injury.

“I think this one year I lost has made me a different person. I have learned how to be humble. I need to make sure that you stay on top of what you are doing as a professional and yet be humble. I just want to ensure that these things don’t happen again,” said Andre Russell.

“I think I am confident. My confidence level is very high. Once you have confidence in whatever sport you play that’s all you need, that self-belief. But I think, I am in good condition. I wouldn’t say that I am 100% fit. I am happy that I am hitting well and bowling with pace. So I know in a few more games, I will be where I want to be,” concluded the all-rounder.

PSL 2021: Quetta Gladiators vs Peshawar Zalmi match today

Quetta Gladiators, at the bottom of the points table in the sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). They will make another attempt and probably this time it will be their final one to stay in the PSL.

Quetta will take on Peshawar Zalmi in the 19th match of the PSL 2021 today (Saturday).
Both the teams were defeated in their previous match at Abu Dhabi, However, this time there will be extra pressure on Quetta as they are on the edge of another early elimination from the race.

Last night Quetta was crushed by Islamabad United. Quetta was unlucky in the match and despite having some good names, are now at the bottom of the points table as they have lost their five out of six matches so far, their confidence is down and the Peshawar can take advantage of it.

Even though the batting lineup of Quetta looked strong on paper, but in reality, it disappointed in the game against Islamabad as its main players were disappointed their fans by an early dismiss; Andre Russell on 13 runs, Faf du Plessis on 5 runs, and Sarfaraz Ahmed on 2 runs. As always Quetta bowlers disappointed by their poor bowling and failed to stop runs and took wickets, Naseem Shah gave 19 runs in an over, Khurram Shahzad gave 29 runs in 2 overs, Mohammad Hasnain gave 21 runs in 2 overs, Zahid Mahmood gave 36 runs in 2 overs, and Zahid Mahmood gave 18 runs in 2 overs.

Peshawar on the other hand fell short of chasing 170 in the match against Lahore Qalandars. They’re at the middle position on the points table, with six points after six matches in which they won three matches and loosed three matches.

Peshawar batsman played very well; Shoaib Malik scored 73 runs off 48balls.
Peshawar had won against Quetta in the first leg of PSL in Karachi, which can also give an advantage to Peshawar.

Haider Ali, Shoaib Malik, Sherfane Rutherford, and Imam ul Haq helped Peshawar to chase a target of 199 for the loss of seven wickets, with three balls remaining.

PSL 2021: Quetta Gladiators’ Andre Russell Taken To Hospital After Being Hit On Helmet

PSL 2021 Andre Russell leaves tournament halfway

Jamaican cricket star Andre Russell will miss Saturday’s 19th Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 match against Peshawar Zalmi tonight after he was stretchered off after being hit by a bouncer during last night’s match against Islamabad United.

Andre Russell played for the Quetta Gladiators in his maiden appearance in the 2021 Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The cricketer, who had resumed batting after the blow on the helmet, was taken to a hospital for scans in an ambulance.

Mohammad Musa churned out a short delivery, catching Russell off-guard as the latter was in no position to negotiate the bouncer.

PSL 2021: “Zalmis are focused on playing their best game,” says Shoaib Malik

psl 2021 Shoaib Malik Zalmi

On Thursday night, Lahore Qalandars managed to beat Peshawar Zalmi by 10 runs in the 17th match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021.

Peshawar Zalmi were chasing a target of 171 and Shoaib Malik stood firm after coming in to bat. He stayed on the wicket till the 19th over and scored the 65th half-century of his T20 career, but he couldn’t help his side win the game.

However, after losing the match, Shoaib Malik in his statement said, “After starting off well against Lahore Qalandars, Zalmi leaked too many runs in the death overs.”

“We leaked runs in death overs, as a team we were not expecting Lahore Qalandars to score around 170 and we missed the trick there, we should’ve done better,” Malik said.

“Rashid Khan’s bowling turned the table, it broke our back by taking all our important wickets. So, he was the key factor and difference between the two sides despite leaking runs in death overs,” said the former Pakistan captain.

“I have always played for my team’s cause and I will continue following this as long as I am playing cricket,” Shoaib Malik added.

“We did bowl well in the start but I think we missed availability of a wrist spinner in the middle overs. But at the same time, we must appreciate Ben Dunk and David who batted really well and also kept strike rate high to help LQ post a good total,” the 39-year-old player said.

He, however, added that the Zalmis are focused on playing their best game and execute whatever they would plan in the matches to come.

“Table looks very close and all the games are important, we need to be at our best in matches to come,” Malik concluded.

Note that Afghan cricketer Rashid Khan recorded his career-best figures in franchise T20 cricket, taking 5-20 off his four overs as Lahore Qalandars beat Peshawar Zalmi by 10 runs to extend their lead at the top of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 points table.

PSL 2021: Sarfaraz Ahmed Aspires Gladiators to score big Against United

Sarfaraz Ahmed

As Quetta Gladiators is all set to take on two-time champion Islamabad United in the 18th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 tonight, Captain Sarfaraz Ahmed says we will play every match like the final.

After suffering the setback against Lahore Qalandars, Islamabad United will be aiming to recover themselves in this match against Gladiators in the 18th match of PSL 2021 remainders.

“We are already behind on the table and cannot afford any more defeats. If we want to make it to the knockout stage we have to win each match from here on so it is all to play for in Abu Dhabi. We have to put in the best in every department of the game to stay in the competition,” Sarfaraz said in a virtual presser.

“Yes, we had a horrendous run in Karachi when our game plan went haywire, particularly our fielding. That is surely one area we’ve been working on diligently,” he added.

Wicketkeeper-batsman opined that every individual knows his role and won’t repeat their previous mistakes.

“Every member of the team is capable of delivering and making the best use of his abilities. What we want from our batsmen is to stay at the wicket and make sure that there are enough wickets to go for a kill in the later part of the 20 overs. And when it comes to restricting opponents we should make the best of our bowling abilities,” he maintained.

Earlier on March 1, the United had defeated Gladiators in Karachi. However, all the contributors to the previous winners are not available to Islamabad on Friday.
