Alaves manager loses his cool after late goal from Real Madrid

  • Real Madrid wins thanks to a late goal by Lucas Vazquez.
  • Alaves manager Luis Garcia Plaza reacts angrily to the loss.
  • Real Madrid played with 10 men after Nacho Fernandez was sent off.

On Thursday night, Alaves appeared to be heading to a draw with Real Madrid at home, but Lucas Vazquez’s late goal put the Whites ahead in the La Liga standings.

Luis Garcia Plaza, the manager of Alaves, lost it as soon as the goal was scored. He knocked over an ice refrigerator and grabbed onto one of his staff members.

It should be mentioned that during the second half, Nacho Fernandez was given a red card, bringing Carlo Ancelotti’s team down to 10 men.

After the victory, Real Madrid moved up to the top of the league table based on goal differential, level at 45 points with surprise player Girona, who had earlier on Thursday played to a 1-1 draw at Real Betis. Barcelona has 38 points, which puts them in third place.

Real Madrid were destined for a boring goalless draw as they were unable to generate many clear-cut opportunities. However, the Spanish powerhouses turned things around after losing Nacho, and they eventually scored when Toni Kroos curled a corner for Vazquez, who headed in from the packed box.

Artem Dovbyk’s first-half penalty in Seville appeared to have put Girona on course for a fourth straight victory and their ninth in their previous ten games. It was the Ukrainian’s eleventh goal of the campaign.

With two minutes remaining, however, German Pezzella—a World Cup champion with Argentina—leveled the score, extending Betis’ unbeaten streak to 13 games, nine of which had ended in draws.

This season, Girona—a team that the owners of Manchester City own in part—only dropped points four times in 18 games.

Real Mallorca, who had only won three games all season, defeated Osasuna 3-2 to move five points clear of the relegation zone in another match.
