TURBAT: Former caretaker interior minister Sarfraz Bugti officially joined the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) just a few days after stepping down from his position – a necessary step to qualify for electoral participation. Speaking at the PPP’s workers convention in Turbat, Bugti revealed that the PPP co-chairman, Asif Ali Zardari had personally encouraged him to align with the party.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the upcoming general elections, Bugti conveyed his gratitude for the support extended by the PPP.
The general elections, scheduled for February 8, 2024, amid concerns of potential delays, were confirmed following the issuance of the polling schedule by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in compliance with Supreme Court directives.
Bugti expressed his optimism that Balochistan would experience restored peace under Zardari’s leadership.
In a plea for enhanced healthcare facilities for the local population, Bugti urged Zardari to consider the establishment of a state-of-the-art hospital in Turbat, similar to the one in Sukkur.
Pledging to transform the PPP into a progressive party under Zardari’s guidance, Bugti asserted that the PPP is poised to challenge narratives against Pakistan.
It’s noteworthy that Bugti was previously associated with the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) before joining the PPP.
Earlier reports circulating in the mainstream media had suggested that Bugti had resigned with the intention of contesting the upcoming general elections on the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) ticket.
