- Pakistan will host the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
- The PCB signed the hosting agreement.
- Eight teams will compete for glory.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) signed an agreement with the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday in Dubai to host the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
The PCB Management Committee chairman, Zaka Ashraf, signed the agreement at Jonathan Hall, General Counsel of the ICC.
In a recent meeting between the acting Prime Minister, Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, and the PCB chairman, the PM promised security agency assistance to successfully organize the Champions Trophy. Kakar also said that strong measures should be taken to ensure the security of the foreign teams staying in Pakistan during the event.
It is noteworthy to mention that the tournament will be played after eight years. The last edition was held in 2017, in which Pakistan clinched the title of champions after thrashing their arch-rivals India in the final by 180 runs.
Eight teams will compete for glory in the 50-over format. The eight teams will be Pakistan (hosts) and the teams that finished in the top seven in the recently concluded 2023 ICC World Cup in India.
It must be noted that Afghanistan, for the first time, will compete in the ICC Champions Trophy after finishing sixth in the World Cup points table, while Sri Lanka missed out on the chance.
The following are the teams participating in the tournament in 2025:
Pakistan (hosts), India, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Afghanistan, England, and Bangladesh.
