  • Novak Djokovic dominated 2023 with 3 Grand Slam wins.
  • Djokovic remains unsure about his retirement.
  • Djokovic sees reinvention and further pushing his limits.

By competing in and winning three of the four Grand Slam finals, Novak Djokovic dominated the 2023 season. As time goes on, rumors that the Serbian player, who turns 37 next year, is retiring begin to circulate.

Nevertheless, Djokovic never stopped surprising the tennis community at the age of 36. Not only did he win the Majors and other coveted trophies, but he also did so by defeating opponents like Daniil Medvedev, Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and others.

The most frequent question was posed to the Serb during a recent interview: “For most athletes, their careers wind down. That doesn’t seem to be happening with you. When, when will you know it’s time?”

In response to my thought-provoking query, Djokovic stated that he doesn’t know yet but will do so soon.

“That’s a very good question that I don’t have an answer to,” Djokovic said. “Maybe the moment will become closer once I start not to win the grand slams and not to be able to be one of the main contenders for major titles.

“And once the young guys start kicking my butt, then I’ll probably, you know, start to rethink and question whether I should keep going. But for now, it’s all good.”

The 24-time Grand Slam champion also understood that Carlos Alcaraz, who has already won two Majors—one of which he secured by defeating the Serb—posed a threat to his rule.

“He’s as complete of a player as I have seen in ages,” said Djokovic.

He continued by saying that he was motivated to watch Alcaraz win the US Open even though he was not allowed to compete.

“Yes it was,’ he said. ‘You’re right because that p***ed me off so much that I needed to win everything on American soil, which I did.

“It’s a great opportunity for me to reinvent myself and really push harder than I ever did.”

It’s important to note that Djokovic has won 10 Australian Opens, 7 Wimbledons, 4 US Opens, and 3 Roland Garros among his 24 Grand Slam victories.
