Sheynnis Palacios, a 23-year-old TV host and model from Nicaragua, was crowned Miss Universe 2023 in a historic moment at the 72nd Miss Universe event in San Salvador, El Salvador. Palacios became the first Nicaraguan woman to win the renowned title, defeating competitors such as India’s Shweta Sharda.
During the final round, Palacios praised 18th-century British philosopher and feminist Mary Wollstonecraft, describing her as a trailblazer who provided chances for women. Palacios stressed that “there are no limitations for women today,” praising gender equality advances.
Palacios, is a seasoned pageant participant, having won the titles of Miss Teen Nicaragua 2016 and Miss World Nicaragua 2020. She also qualified for the Top 40 of Miss World 2021. Palacios, a mass communications student at Central American University in Managua, is not just a beauty queen but also a superb athlete who has played varsity volleyball.
Palacios dedicated her victory to her inner child and other girls pursuing their aspirations in a poignant Instagram message before the finals. She inspired others to dream large, overcoming barriers on the way to success with tenacity, perseverance, and enthusiasm.
