- Elon Musk’s xAI has introduced Grok, a direct rival to ChatGPT and other generative AI chatbots.
- Grok, with real-time access to data from X, is powered by the innovative Grok-1 engine.
- Grok uses humor and tackles unconventional or controversial questions that many AI systems avoid.
Elon Musk‘s newly unveiled AI company, xAI, has unveiled its inaugural product, Grok, which directly competes with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and other generative AI-focused chatbots.
Musk recently introduced his chatbot on X and claims it to be “the best there is” in certain aspects. Grok is presently surpassing GPT 3.5 in various academic assessments, particularly in the fields of math and coding.
Grok, the chatbot, has real-time access to data from X and is powered by a novel engine called Grok-1.
As per xAI, Grok excelled in a series of assessments using standard machine learning benchmarks designed to assess math and reasoning abilities, outperforming all other models in its compute class, which includes ChatGPT-3.5 and Inflection-1. However, it was outperformed only by models trained with substantially more training data and computational resources, like GPT-4.

In addition to the usual machine learning benchmarks, xAI assessed Grok, Claude-2, and GPT-4 in the 2023 Hungarian national high school mathematics finals. Grok and Claude-2 both earned a C grade, with scores of 59% and 55%, while GPT-4 obtained a B grade with a score of 68%.

Musk mentioned that Grok is programmed to provide responses with a touch of sarcasm and humor. Additionally, it’s capable of addressing “spicy” questions that are typically declined by most other AI systems.
