According to Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesperson for Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, during their meeting, President Abbas emphasized to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken the urgent need for a “prompt cessation of hostilities” and the necessity to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance into the Gaza Strip.
According to the Palestinian official news agency he also told Blinken: “I have no words to describe the genocide and destruction suffered by our Palestinian people in Gaza at the hands of Israel’s war machine, with no regard for the principles of international law.”
Blinken, alongside the foreign ministers of Jordan and Egypt in a joint press conference on Saturday, rejected the idea of a ceasefire, as he expressed concerns that it could provide an opportunity for Hamas to regroup. Instead, he called for a temporary humanitarian pause.
This stance aligns with demands made by Arab states.
