Reference against Judge Mohsin Akhtar Kayani filed to Supreme Judicial Council

ISLAMABAD: A reference has been submitted to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) against Islamabad High Court Judge Mohsin Akhtar Kayani.

Advocate Raja Maqsood Hussain lodged the reference on Monday, urging the SJC to dismiss Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani from his position due to alleged misconduct.

Additionally, the filing requested the suspension of Justice Mohsin’s judicial authorities until a decision is reached regarding the complaint.

The complaint accused the judge of abusing his authority as an administrative judge by allegedly assigning cases to individuals identified as his relatives and friends.

The reference alleges that family members of Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani are operating an unlawful boating enterprise at Rawal Dam.

It also claims that no institution is willing to take action against Justice Mohsin’s relatives.

The reference further states that Judge Mohsin, who is affiliated with AQ Associates, is assigning cases to his fellow lawyers.

Additionally, the reference accuses Justice Mohsin of possessing numerous undisclosed properties both domestically and internationally.

Justice Mohsin has 15 immovable properties in Pakistan, including six plots, nine houses and apartments, the reference said.

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani has a Benami property worth two billion in Sector F6 of Islamabad, the reference further charged.

The reference calls for the removal of Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani from his position as a judge due to proven misconduct.

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, in partnership with Chaudhry Abdul Aziz at AQ Associates, has subordinates who frequently appear in his courtroom to seek favorable outcomes for their clients, which undermines the integrity of the justice system.

Jawad Adil, the brother of a lawyer affiliated with Mohsin Akhtar Kayani’s law chamber, has direct connections to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban, and an FIR (First Information Report) has been filed against him. Despite his case being in progress in the Anti-Terrorism Court, Mohsin Akhtar Kayani reportedly provided assistance in his favor.

It is suggested that a significant number of cases in their court are predetermined, as evidenced by the records of the Islamabad High Court.
