Joint task force of ISI, MI & FIA to probe fake passport scandal

ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to get fake passport scandal investigated by joint task force.

Ministry of Interior has formed a nine-member joint task force, including the officers of ISI, MI and FIA.

A task force headed by the Director General Intelligence Bureau (DG IB) will probe the passport scandal.

Earlier on Wednesday, sensitive government agencies submitted a confidential report to NADRA authorities, shedding light on the troubling issue of counterfeit identity cards being provided to Iranian citizens.

The report says that it appears that several officers of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) may be involved in this fraudulent activity.

This report also confirms the presence of forgeries within the institution, as acknowledged by the Chairman of NADRA during a Senate Standing Committee meeting.

This revelation has raised questions about NADRA’s claims of having a modern and secure system, as the issuance of fake identity cards to individuals from other countries threatens national security.

It has come to light that a substantial number of Iranian and Afghan citizens have used these fake identity cards to settle in various countries, including Europe, America, Canada, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Action has been initiated against several NADRA employees and officers allegedly involved in this case, according to sources.

Furthermore, the inquiry report reveals that hundreds of fake identity cards for Iranian citizens were processed in different centers of NADRA in Balochistan, raising concerns about the extent of the issue.

In a worrying development, it has been alleged that after obtaining fake NADRA cards, some foreign nationals also managed to acquire Pakistani passports.

This situation underscores the importance of a robust and secure system for the issuance of identity documents and passports, as such lapses could have serious consequences for national security and the integrity of the identification process.
