ICC World Cup 2023: BCCI gives update on Hardik Pandya’s injury

  • Hardik Pandya has an ankle injury.
  • Shami was replaced for the NZ match.
  • He may be available for the Lucknow match.

An update on the injury sustained by India’s top all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who twisted his knee during India’s match against Bangladesh on October 19 in Pune, was given by a representative of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Pandya was unable to play in India’s October 22 match against New Zealand in Dharamshala, but the Blues more than made up for his absence as they won easily by four wickets, their fifth straight World Cup victory.

Even though Pandya is playing at peak fitness, India would still benefit from having him because he is one of Rohit Sharma’s most valuable players and contributes both with the bat and the ball.

An unidentified BCCI official has revealed that there are no preparations to appoint a replacement for the match against England as the 30-year-old recovers from an ankle ailment.

“It is only a sprain and nothing serious. He should be available for selection in the Lucknow match”, the BCCI official confirmed.

It should be mentioned that pacer Mohammad Shami took Pandya’s position during the match against New Zealand and claimed five wickets in an impressive five-for-four.

Sharma’s task of selecting the playing XI on October 29 would undoubtedly be challenging due to Shami’s stint.
