Amendments are being made in Election Act: Tarar

  • He said aim of amendments to hold transparent polls.
  • Tarar said that electoral reforms are a national service.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Law Azam Nazir Tarar has said that he is making amendments to the Election Act, the aim of which is transparent elections.

Addressing the meeting of the Senate Committee, he said that many amendments are being made to the Election Act.

The Law Minister said that representatives of the Election Commission of Pakistan, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Law have briefed the Senate Committee.

He said that electoral reforms are a national service, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf’s Ali Zafar is also a member of this committee and he must come to the meeting of the committee.

Azam Nazir Tarar said that the political and religious parties that are outside the parliament have been heard by the Senate Committee, apart from the parties outside the House, Free and Fair Election Network(FFEN)and Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency(PILDT)have also been heard.

The law minister further said that the review committee is carefully studying the proposals received in this regard and no new work is being done. He said the final recommendations of the committee will be brought before everyone.

Earlier,  Federal Commerce Minister Naveed Qamar has said that the government has been proposed to dissolve all assemblies on August 8.

He said this while having informal talk at Parliament House, here on Tuesday.

Naveed observed that the decision to dissolve the assemblies has to be taken by the federal government, adding that the PPP wants electoral reforms before elections.
