‘Sakra’ trailer shows some action moves of Donnie Yen

  • Donnie Yen last took the director’s chair.
  • North American viewers with his most recent film, the Chinese action epic Sakra.
  • Donnie Yen has chaotic and stylish fight scenes as the tragic hero and martial arts.

With 2003’s Protégé de la Rose Noire, often known as Black Rose Academy, action legend Donnie Yen last took the director’s chair. Renowned for his amazing battle scenes in the Ip Man franchise among many other classics, he’s largely kept to acting in recent years with the most noteworthy of his appearances being in the upcoming John Wick: Chapter 4. But on April 14, he will finally present North American viewers with his most recent film, the Chinese action epic Sakra. Ahead of the premiere, Collider can exclusively reveal the trailer for the film which sees Yen taking part in some chaotic and stylish fight scenes as the tragic hero and martial arts specialist Qiao Feng.

Louis Cha, also known as Jin Yong, wrote the famous wuxia novel Demi-Gods And Semi-Devils, and Sakra is an adaption of that work that follows Feng as she searches for the truth. Accused of murdering his parents, he looks to find out more about himself and the killers that framed him from the shadows. The murder caused turmoil and endangered the Song Dynasty’s stability, as the trailer also demonstrates. As he swears to investigate answers, “everyone in the world” wants Feng’s head for his claimed conduct leaving him little space to mourn his loss. All he can do is battle to clear his name and obey his father’s desires.

The action in the footage is very breathtaking, despite the intriguing setup. Given his large number of adversaries, many of the sequences have Yen fighting numerous foes at once. Despite this, he does so with elegance and ease, bouncing off the walls and deflecting strikes with a smile on his face.

It’s a feast for the eyes as he slashes through his foes, blocks a shower of arrows, and takes down enemies in one-on-one fistfights, but it only gets better when he introduces elemental powers to the mix. While the trailer for John Wick limits him to gun-fu combat, Yen throws fireballs and uses the wind itself to amplify his blows and whirl everything in his path away.
