Fremantle Introduces Undeniable as a Premium Documentary Label

  • Mandy Chang, Fremantle’s global head of documentaries, announced Tuesday at CPH: DOX.
  • Listening to Kenny G”), and others, the label is already working on a number of international projects.
  • 52 documentaries produced by our production firms around the world.

Mandy Chang, Fremantle’s global head of documentaries, announced Tuesday at CPH: DOX in Copenhagen that the Documentaries division of the company has established Undeniable, a label dedicated to producing high-end feature documentaries and series in collaboration with well-known talent and international commissioners.

Well-known directors like Amy Berg (“Save Us From Evil,” “Phoenix Rising”), Chris Smith (“Tiger King,” “Bad Vegan”), Penny Lane, and Gabriel Sedgwick (“Hail Satan?,” “Listening to Kenny G”), and others, the label is already working on a number of international projects.

Says Chang “The debut of Undeniable highlights our desire to elevate Fremantle’s documentary output to a premium level. The label will offer editorial and production know-how and support across a variety of genres, working with the top filmmakers and up-and-coming talent.

Importantly, it will provide creative talent a stage and the ability to investigate significant themes and stories that need to be shared.”

The goal of Undeniable, according to a statement from the firm, is to create “provocative, engaging, varied, and powerful films and series that push the frontiers of storytelling and challenge assumptions about the world around us.”

“Investigative, geopolitical, and single narrative stories to cultural landmark films, contemporary history, true-crime, and genre-busting biopics on a worldwide scale” are just a few of the films that will be included.

In its first year, Fremantle Documentaries supported projects like “Kim’s Video” (Fremantle, Carnivalesque Films), which had its U.S. premiere at DOC NYC the previous year, and the fashion series “Kingdom of Dreams” from Misfits Entertainment, the production company behind “McQueen,” which had its U.S. premiere at DOC NYC this year.

“In their first year, the incredibly talented Fremantle Documentaries team has swiftly built a wide slate of projects,” stated Andrea Scrosati, group COO and continental CEO of Fremantle.

We are pleased that 52 documentaries produced by our production firms around the world were delivered by Fremantle in 2022.

The premiere of Undeniable will be a part of Fremantle’s expansion strategy to strengthen our strengths in documentaries as we have recently done so effectively in film and drama.

Recent acquisitions by Fremantle include majority stakes in 72 Films (All or Nothing: Arsenal), Wildstar Pictures (America the Beautiful), and Silvio Productions (Epic Adventures with Bertie Gregory) (“Shadow of Truth,” “The Baby Daddy”).

Fremantle recently entered into a first-look agreement with Hudlin Entertainment, led by Academy Award-nominated producer/director Reginald Hudlin (“Marshall,” “Django Unchained”) and producer Byron Phillips.

Last week, Fremantle announced a first-look deal with Oscar and Emmy-nominated documentary director Amy Berg (“The Case Against Adnan Syed”), and its Original Productions recently entered into a first-look agreement with Hud (“The Black Godfather”).
