The meeting between King Charles and Emmanuel Macron scheduled for the Palace of Versailles has been postponed owing to possible violence.

After the President pushed through a bill raising the retirement age from 62 to 64, riots broke out last week in France.

Since then, thousands of protesters have descended onto Paris’ streets, setting fire to cars, damaging buildings, and tussling with police.

The protesters have rendered the event too unsafe, a Macron advisor told French TV station BFM.

The aide said: “The dinner between Charles III and Emmanuel Macron, planned for Monday, may not be held at Versailles, as initially planned.”

The King’s visit will also be disrupted, according to French tram drivers.

According to union leaders, they have plans to welcome King Chares on Sunday with “a good old general strike.”

“Charles III, we are going to welcome him with a good old general strike,” said Olivier Besancenot of the far-Left New Anti-capitalist Party to France Info.

This week, King Charles and Camilla attend the funeral of the sister-in-law of the Queen Consort in the charming Dorset village.

The younger sister of the Queen Consort, Annabel, had a 50-year marriage to businessman Sam Elliot. This month, Elliot passed away at the age of 82.

On Monday, grieving friends and family could be seen making their way to the service at Holy Trinity Church in Stourpaine.
